Kate did a good job in the GMTV years, particularly towards the end when she was the second female presenter behind Fiona. She was fairly understated and had the ability to flip between serious and light items, yet when Fiona left and she became the main presenter, her ego spiralled out of control. The same happened on Daybreak- she was back to being quite grounded when it first started, yet when Christine left she has since returned to being a top class irritant. She's ruined herself, not ruined by anyone else or the format, and although she is capable of better things, I'm not sure anyone other than ITV would employ her.

I wouldn't say she ruined herself, just appealed to what the bosses want. Perhaps this is the reason why she is still here and her GMTV co-hosts are not.

I suppose you're right; in that industry it's survival of the fittest. She has had to adapt to suit the changing needs of her job - even if we feel the end result is inferior to how she started.

She may have appealed to what the bosses want (and very clever of her to do so), but is it what the viewers want? She was at the helm of GMTV when it nosedived, whilst epitomising everything that was wrong with the show (she should have gone along with the rest) and Daybreak has sunk even further since she took over. I used to like her a lot, and I'm sure I'll like her again when she's back to being the backup presenter, but she does come across as thinking shes untouchable.

It's the smugness and false smile that riles me. I'm sure it's not intentional, probably just a personality trait; but I can't help but jump to thinking that it's due to the fact that she is considered the main anchor at the moment. Perhaps I am being pessimistic! But I agree that she will be great as the stand in presenter.

She often shines during politically charged interviews, or when presenting a news story; her journalistic background comes to the forefront - I would like to see her as Ranvir's back up on the news hour.

Is it just me who thinks the Daybreak title music has a resemblance to the ITV News theme, like a really crap 'lifestyle' version?
