I wonder if Emma Willis was miffed that Rylan was chosen to co-present this. I know she and Dermot are going to pop up in places. It just struck me that if it did come back for another series on Channel Four would they perhaps opt for Davina hosting with Rylan as the sidekick? They do have good chemistry.

In my opinion this was peak Big Brother, I never felt any series topped this from there after. The only series' that was similar to it for me was CBB January 2013 and BB14 but it didn't just quite hit the spot in the way the way BB7 did.

If it wasn't Rylan I think they'd have asked Dermot before Emma.

This is Big Brother at it's best and somewhat most natural with the housemates holding each other to account rather than producers stepping in too soon. Great to have short catch ups from some of the cast too, though video messages rather than live chats.

I really didn't enjoy watching Susie at all, I thought she was amazingly dull, but I did very much enjoy the fallout her mere presence caused, at least for some of the series.

BB7 was very much the year of "babez". Pretty much every other sentence featured the word.

Agreed. I think BB14 is very underrated. Of the C5 series, it's head and shoulders above the rest. A great mix of characters, a stripped back house design and focus on back to basics, one (fun) twist at the launch and relatively little meddling throughout. Plus a regular live feed. It can definitely stand up to a few of the C4 series, and the Remote Control task (which was later revamped and reused with diminishing returns) was absolute genius.

Ratings and reaction to this rewind series have been good so far. I can see C4 extending it if it keeps hold of its audience, and hopefully we get a few of the better C5 episodes thrown into the mix if that happens.

BB7 was probably the last decent one. BB8 (Brian Belo) quite average. And BB9 (Rachel Rice?!) and thereafter, just mediocre.

CBB seemed a bit more resilient (as someone has already remarked) and had a real resurgence on C5.

Interesting that C4 didn’t show a celeb version in 2003 and 2004. Does anyone remember why? I remember BB2 (with Les Dennis) feeling quite flat.

Did they say something about C5 episodes being included towards the end of this run? It wasn't made that clear when they had the chat with Emma and Dermot on Monday night's show.

I thought it might be interesting to look at the stats of the threads for each Big Brother series (on Channel 4) to see exactly where the popularity drop-off happened. Obviously this is not the most scientifically accurate thing, as there would have been fewer members near the start of the threads as TVF was only a year old, and the forum culture used to be about starting lots of little, short-lived threads rather than megathreads, so a lot of the discussion may have happened outside of them (BB2 didn't have a megathread for example).

Series 3 / 2002 — 14 pages, 162 replies
Series 4 / 2003 — 80 pages, 952 replies
Series 5 / 2004 — 87 pages, 1,036 replies
Series 6 / 2005 — 55 pages, 659 replies
Series 7 / 2006 — 159 pages, 1,897 replies
Series 8 / 2007 172 pages, 2,055 replies
Series 9 / 2008 — 57 pages, 675 replies
Series 10 / 2009 - 21 pages, 241 replies
Series 11 (inc. Ultimate Big Brother) / 2010 — 17 pages, 202 replies

Fascinating just how fast the drop-off in interest was between series 8 and 9, and even the final series combined with Ultimate Big Brother gets the fewest replies since series 3. I do remember series 10 looking particularly poor, with a rubbish house and awful launch night twist/task.

Celebrity big brother was axed after the second series , the evil theme suited the revival in 2005 very well.

I'm currently watching back cbb3 , it's a fantastic series with so many funny moments from Jackie and John.

Series 7 was a huge success but I'm sure I remember lots of comments on forums, in the press and amongst friends at how boring the last month was .

It was the first series that aired for 13 weeks - BB6 was 11, which was about right IMO. It dragged a bit towards the end - think most people saying it was boring probably thought so because Nikki had been evicted.
