This sounds like ITV are nicking titles from the Pink Panther.. Next one Curse of Alright of the night?

I will say the mixture of clips isn't too bad. Richard Whiteley's ferret outtake was used tonight as was the infamous BBC Skype call and some other footage from Sky News of kids throwing snowballs at the reporter during a live OB. And that "what's in the box" outtake from Live TV plus funny horse names during a race (I swear some of those names are not genuine!)

Quite surprised this outtake hasn't appeared yet:

Meanwhile someone in Belgium is posting a video of ‘Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge’ on a forum asking why it’s nevered appeared in one of their outtake shows.

That clip is from a sketch show. It's not a real talk show.

It’s pretty obvious when you think about it. The end should have been a dead giveaway.

Or Star Wars? Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith?

The mix of clips used are good. They're at their disposal as they've appeared on past editions.

It's the editing of them that ruins it. For example the clips of the fisherman were all shown in one sequence originally which at the time was hilarious as to how many times this man could fail.

On the David Williams version just two clips were used and were not shown consecutively so you'd have no idea it was the same person. It also didn't help that the canned laughter downed out most of what was said, that was if David didn't speak over it first.

The clips being used weren't in question. What made IBAOTN what it was was Denis and Griff just let the clips speak for themselves, they'd merely introduce the sequence beforehand. And real laughter mimics the parts that most find funny and how funny they find it, something that canned laughter can't do which thinks all clips are just as funny as each other.

Overall treating Alright on the Night as just another clip show puts it in danger of being forgettable and unmemorable and just like any other blooper show which barely last a couple of years. It's the original and have been going on for 40 years. The legacy of the show deserves more than an animated unrecognisable character and a disruptive voiceover.

I also noticed their use of backing music on clips that really didn't need any. One of Eammon Holmes walking in shot of the weather and Sky News, and the one from Thames News where the reporter is "dreadfully p***ed off". It's not as if these clips were particularly drawn out. I really don't understand some of the editing choices in this rendition.

It's still the canned laughter and completely unnecessary narration that annoys me the most. There's only so much "ooh, don't think that was supposed to happen" can do to make a clip funnier.
