I'm guessing the butchering is for the international market too. However i don't see why hey don't just cut out the 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' segment, as most of the international audience won't have a clue who the 'celebs' are anyway. Only the most recent series has really got internationally well known celebs in. Plus i find the whole segment dire anyway, especially now they use it just to plug the latest thing the celeb is doing. I'd rather have the clip of the cow falling off the car (which was cut) than Hugh Grant talking about himself....

Don't think so, UKTV will do the edit for themselves. International broadcasters will have their own things to remove.

They normally remove the topical stuff, some of the links, and the end just before the final 'goodbye' So you see one report going straight into the next with just a sting and a sudden cut at the end.

Obviously the American episode doesn't have links or topicality.

I'm glad someone pointed this out, I noticed a bit of editing on the one with the fully British panel (the one with Merton & Slattery) where Tony Slattery does a improvisation to something pulled out of the hat, Clive Anderson says well done & then it cuts back to both Paul & Tony going back up the step even though only Tony went down to do it (obviously a rude gag there)

Maybe something topical that has since turned libelous or offensive

Watching this series, am I the only one who would love to see it back, you'd have to have Tony Slattery, Ryan Styles, Josie Lawrence, and others from the original series though. Peter Kay wouldn't really work on this

Apparently Paul Merton is developing an Australian improv format for ITV called 'Thank God You're Here': http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2007/07/27/5580/merton_set_for_itv_improv_show Have a look at the clip, it looks quite good

Tony Slattery had severe depression a few years back and only does bit part acting now i think.

He was recently in Coronation Street as the owner of the bookie's. I guess as something of a bit part, he may return once in a while when needed.

I've knows VMtv-related channels to have dodgy continuity announcing but never have I seen it dodgy onscreen. The lineup just looked something like this:

7.30 Whose Line Is It Anyway?
9.00 The Apprentice
10:00 Whose Line Is It Anyway?

With announcer: "..at and 10:00, Dragon's Den..."
MI
Michael
The lineup cards do need a tweak: the other day they said "Billy Connolly's World Tour Of England, Scotland & Wales" - when it's Ireland instead of Scotland. The World Tour of Scotland programme occurred in 1994.

Just watching the TOTP2 repeats on Dave, and I noticed a strange thing.

This is a hard one to explain, but I'll give it my best shot...

During every performance an animated graphic appears for 30 seconds, with the TOTP2 logo in a box on the left, and the month and year of the original performance in a box on the right. In the middle is an area divided into three rows (blue, orange and blue) where trivia about the artist normally appears.

On the Dave repeats the graphic appears and animates as normal, but the trivia box remains blank in about half of all performances.

Studying it closely, there don't seem to be any large blocks of colour "burned over" the original text; it's as if another version was recorded where the trivia text was simply missing.

Weird. Any explanations?

Can't explain the TOTP2 thing but regarding Dave, does anyone know what the tune is on the Quizcom Monday's trailer. It's that whistling tune of which I've seen the video (it's like animated pop art) but never caught the name of it.

Not sure if it's the right one, but from your description it sounds like Peter Bjorn & John Ft Bergsman - "Young Folks"

At a guess, the information in the original broadcast was relevant at the time - e.g. a 40th birthday, or the act was on tour - and is of course no longer relevant now that the programme is repeated several years on.

I think you'll find that actually blocks of colour have been burned over the original - it's by far the easiest way to version this programme.

Yeah - that's probably the most likely reason for the text to have been removed. ISTR quite often the text would say things like "Happy Birthday to drummer Joe Bloggs on Sunday". Obviously that's only appropriate for the original Tx.
