I'm worried I'm turning into the obit correspondent here...

Awww. That one got a collective sigh in the office here.

He was great. Loved how he used to say, "Oh the whiskey glass is empty - lets look at some sketches while I fill it".

Hope we get some replays in the next few weeks.

Dave Allen - One of the last remaining comedy giants - and largely forgotten in the recent (hundreds of) polls to find the best comic.

I called a phone in on LBC just 2 weeks ago, and named him as MY favourite living comedian, only for the presenter and guests to say, "Oh yeah! Of course!".

Shame it's taken his untimely death for people to be reminded of the great man.

A master of his craft, who many of today's "funsters" should sit down and examine.

One of the BBC news items says that he wouldn't allow repeats of his material during his lifetime.

That, sadly but probably, has a lot to do with him appearing to have been forgotten.

I too am now looking forward to some repeats, but just wish we were going to see them for a different reason.

Dave Allen used to have me in stitches. A very funny man indeed.

Shouldn't that be the broadcaster's decision alone?

He was one of few comedians who were never subject to overexposure on the box, and for that reason, he was always hilariously funny.

Let's indeed hope we get some long overdue replays of some of his classic shows. Some of the so-called "comics" on Comic Relief tonight could do well to take a leaf out of Allen's book.

Was so, so sad to hear this today. His irreverential comedy was fantastic, real life observation at it's best. All the good ones seem to be leaving us. Such a shame that he hadn't been around on tv for a while.

"May his God go with him". RIP x

He certainly told it as it was. One of the best.

His work for Carlton in '93 had me in stitches.

Cheers Dave, may your God go with you.

Definitely NOT.

The writer must have the final word.

What a loss.

I'll be having a little scotch in his memory. I grew up with him on TV and he shaped my sense of humour (sarcastic and dark).

The other thing is, it's no age to die, far too young!
