I admit that I dont normally watch Dateline London that often but tonight its presented by Hugh Edwards and to my knowledge it has always been presented by Gavin Esler, so where is he this week? I also thought it was an odd coice to get Hugh to present it, I would have thought that they would have got someone from BBC News 24 like Chris Eakin or Mike Embley?
I don't know about Huw presenting it before, but Nik Gowing from BBC World has certainly presented in the past (as it is a shared programme with World). Sue MacGregor from Today has done a stint, and I think Sue Cameron (who used to presenter Newsnight) has done the odd show.
Incidentally - Gavin did not present Dateline London initially. The show was originally 'Dateline London with Charles Wheeler' and it was quite a big thing that it was presented by the veteran, and very well respected, BBC News correspondent - Charles Wheeler.
Dateline London is one of the only programmes on News 24 which has hardly changed since the channel launched. It certainly has retained very similar opening titles, even if the set and graphics have changed with successive re-vamps of News 24.
Well I watched the rest of the program and he said he would be back next week, maybe Gavin is on Holiday as hes not been on news 24 this week neither has Carrie Gracie
