Sorry that it's not quite on the current topic, but I hope I can now put to bed the myth that BBC World re-branded with the new BBC News design and David Lowe's music in 1999. After constructing a complicated search strategy, I managed to get my list of results down to just 9 websites, one of which states that BBC World's rebrand happened on
Monday 3 April 2000

Hope that clears that one up once and for all!
Thanks for sorting that out! Does anyone remember what was used during simulcasts in the interim period when News 24 used the new beige look and BBC World stayed with the old flags? I assume the overnight service was shown on both channels (and BBC One) back then as well.
I have footage on tape somewhere which my uncle recorded of "Central Later" (which I believe ran through to about 2/3am but was not a full Night Time service) showings of UFO. These feature a combination of "Central Later" idents with the cake, "Colourful Moon" and another ident, which feature the coloured CENTRAL lettering.

This is what was told to me:
Quote:
The "one to watch" launched around August 1985 for continuity purposes only with some junctions still using announcers in-vision. At this time, the ordinary Central ident was still being used at the start of programmes. It looked a bit odd linking from the cake to the globe, but it did happen. Front-end idents were dropped in Sept 1987. The networked cake production animation started in 1988 and lasted for around 12 months when it was decided b the network that only static prod caps were to be used. We obviously kept the animated cake locally.
Hope this is helpful. By the way, the Central presentation caption for acquired programming was replaced with a Central cake end ident.
But as we have seen cake was used as ident in 1986, SO I was correct it was never used as ident at start, and so was Andrew where it just flooded the place.

Does anyone any history about htv from the 1980s. As it seems to a lack of information about what happened.
Can anyone actully say how many idents were created, how many sets were made in the first lot in 1997, and then lot in 1999 and 2000. is there any details about what were never used in some parts,
who know that 1996 "channel 3 ident" come in around 1st week in September.
Mon Sep 2nd at 18:00 -- the old idents were still in place at 17:40, along with promos stating that programmes were "on Tyne Tees", even though one C3NE promo had leaked through the night before.
