I think this is the most appropriate thread for this. I've only just noticed that the HTV signature notes in this:

lasted into the next ident:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McTjMs216lc

I've never seen that before. Interesting music, like two pieces in one with a slightly odd jump from calm to upbeat in the middle.

I believe it was produced by one of the post production companies that Virgin owned in the 80s, possibly Rushes who were much later responsible for ITV3's 2006 idents.

can anyone remember the SECOND ident on this page?

http://www.tv-live.org.uk/wp/index.php/itv/regions/grampian/news/2009-2012/

It says "Highlands and Islands" I dont remember the area having a special ident for the news? It looks like the SUMMER ident, for the whole of STV?

Any ideas?

Highland and islands doesn't have an opt out, Nor local adverts. its does have the capability but stv has yet to bring it into action.

In two weeks time, it will have been two year since I started this campaign to try and pin point the correct information. Alas were still trying to find date but I'm still hopeful. Thank you to all who have helped.

Was the following a proper ident? Or did LWT just get lazy and use its frontcap as an ident?

*

REMEMBER, there still a few unsolved idents:
* When was the Cake was dropped: Last Central idents started on 1st OR 20 April 1998 using the word central instead of the cake.
* Date, even rough of the 1991 Yorkshire ident being introduced.
* When did Central use From Mid June 1994 - 13 Feb 1995 during the night - Weekday/ Weekend.
* When Did Thames dump the ITV ident 28 Oct? 4 November 1991?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvPNft24XM8&list=UUjFXpf1WBRt4uldsZd2hbJw&index=2
* DID the Channel 3 branding get dropped on Monday 9th March 1998 Clips have appeared of non Ch3 appearing in Feb 1998.

What do you mean by 'proper ident' and what's the difference between a 'frontcap' and ident?

Surely they just did what all the other companies did and sometimes used a still and sometimes ran the animated ident?
:-(

Sorry for the delay. I thought there was a difference between a front cap and ident, by simply having

* FC: "presents" and has no CA.
* ident has No presents and has CA.

I know of few ITV station where there just went straight into Frontcap with No CA etc.

I;ve comes across this clip on the old TV ARK site: https://web.archive.org/web/20050215030116/http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/

Quote:
LWT Continuity - 1983
Sue Peacock is most excited by the British TV premiere of Jaws 2. She also has the chance to plug Tarby's new show, Live From Her Majesty's, courtesy of some exciting aerial stock shots of London by night.

Jaws 2 premièred on ITV. Sunday 8th Janurary 1983,
Live From Her Majesty's, 2nd Series returned on Sunday 23rd January 1983

Reason for asking: Its always believed LWT dropped its Invision, in January 1983, but the clip will it could be 1st and 2nd of Jan or 7th or 8th January 1983.

This could still mean Invision was dropped in Jan 1983?

*The cake is introduced---The "one to watch" launched around 5 August 1985 for continuity purposes only with some junctions still using announcers in-vision.
At this time, the ordinary Central ident was still being used at the start of programmes. It looked a bit odd linking from the cake to the globe, but it did happen.
The networked cake production animation started in 1988 and lasted for around 12 months when it was decided by the network that only static prod caps were to be used.
We obviously kept the animated cake locally. Hope this is helpful. By the way, the Central presentation caption for acquired programming was replaced with a Central cake end ident.

There were two "Granada in the North West" variants for regional programmes.
The 1990 version had its own form up and tune and this continued to be used when the blue ident came in.
When the newer white ident came, a matching North West variant arrived as well, but apart from the wording, the ident was
the same as the standard one. The flags, I'm not sure on when they came and went but am certain they didn't totally replace the standard stripe ident.

The 1995 one is correct, I believe. There were two variants. The normal one and one shot at an angle. The angle one didn't last long and probably
went when the first 'weird' idents arrived. As more of these idents were introduced, the normal ident was seen less, mainly before news and serious programmes.
However, its usage increased slightly once Yorkshire took over transmission in 1998, as it was the lazy option for joint continuity.
