I loved the spin they came up for those set of idents... "If ITV is the heart, then Carlton is the star of the ITV Network" - b*llocks, but can't blame them for trying.
For the 9 years Carlton was used as an on air brand, they used 4 different sets of idents, 3 were made by Lambie Nairn, and the smaller T in L was their idea too, I think they deserve alot of credit for the way Carlton got noticed in the early days.
I think Carlton and only two things come to mind, great idents and Police, Camera, Action.

It certainly made an impact on air and as soon as it started it made Thames and LWT look very stuffy. The little T was a clever idea that outlived it's relevance of course.
I make it 5 sets of idents by the way, they replaced the originals with non-speaking people on a much calmer background about a year in, which weren't as good
I think that's from the final set of idents made using claymation, when the channel was renamed to simply 'Plus' as the DOG implies. The other one I can remember is the logo falling in front of a claymation family sitting on a sofa.
By this time for most of the day the channel was known on screen (including the DOG) as something like 'Crime Plus' IIRC.
