Problem is you date for stv ident is out by four mouths. I'm on about flat version to water version, not 88 on Scottish to flat ident, that happen a month later.
Do you have something, anything to back them up? Other people have said stuff which has help us pin point central to April 98, and anglia to march 88 etc.

Thanks for that, Phil. I knew I'd seen the proper lines version at least once but no more than twice in the ITV1 era. It was very, very rare. I'm glad it's been recorded.
Just to clear some things up. From launch day, there were three types of hearts ident on GMG North...
Lines - the standard ident where lines cut across the screen to make the logo over the hearts background.
Scenes - short movies (around 5 seconds) where a heart shape appears, then a white flash transition into the formed up logo.
Hold - logo is already formed and the music starts at 25 seconds in (I checked). Unlike the other two, this variant was unique to GMG North, as far as I know.
Some of the scene versions had a piano variant of the tune. The infamous "knickers on the washing line" was one of these. I think the kids in the back seat of a car, the fairground one and the scalls jumping over a fence being caught on CCTV also had the piano variant (all film idents had either one or the other). So far as I know, the piano variant was unique to GMG North, until they took over UNM.
When ITV became ITV1, the film scenes were disused completely on GMG North. There was only hold plus a new variant of lines with the music starting at 25 seconds. The standard lines ident was used very, very rarely but it did happen.
Now, we need to clear some confusion about Meridian and Anglia. Although GMG bought them from UNM in 2000, transmission and presentation remained in Southampton, not Leeds. So, they still did their own thing, like LWT did, which was also owned by GMG. The hold version that GMG North used was never used by Meridian and Anglia, so far as I know. From day one, they used lines and the scenes, however, the scenes always had the standard string music. However, they had their own version of the hold, which was just the ident already formed with no music playing. Once GMG took over, two things happened: Southampton were made to stop putting regional station logos on network promos and the piano variant of the ident music was introduced. One other thing from watching Anglia in December 2000 was that GMG North sometimes produced some of the regional promos. I recall a regional promo for a football show (Anglia Soccer Night?) which was voiced over by Bob Preedy. Was weird to hear him say "on Anglia". I saw Meridian in August 2002 and they appeared to have abandoned the film sequences, probably when ITV became ITV1 like GMG North. I only witnessed the standard lines ident or the silent hold one.
Hope this helps.
There's a copy on TV Whirl, with the description: "The full version of the ITV hearts ident was still used after the ITV1 rebrand, but very rarely. Still, here it is in all it's *cough* glory! This was used right up until the end of regional presentation from the North."

From this page: http://www.tvwhirl.co.uk/granada.html
Also, the short formed up ident seems to have been in use right from the beginning, in Granada at least: http://youtu.be/f7lK7_bCjAY

I vaguely remember this too.
Since we're talking about the 1999 ITV idents, I never understood the point of how the animation of the endboard forms up on the filmed idents. The region name appears first, before the rest of the graphics appear. Just always looked as though something had cocked up in the rendering.
