I'd say so yes.

The fact that Bill Steel appeared all day with the pale yellow 1989 background (which was part of the ITV package), but didn't show the ident until later in the day, would say to me that it was launched when LWT started.

Lesley Manners was in the booth at TTTV that evening, and referred to the station as "ITV Tyne Tees" all night. However this monicker was dropped a short time later, and Bill very rarely used it.

I take it TT were just Like Grampian and only broadcast Idents before news and Very important programmes?

Yes.

TTTV only ever showed the full ident:

1) Before the news
2) Burned-into programmes made by TTTV (right up to the end of 1992)
3) During the 1980s, before imported programmes (they stopped doing this around 1986).
4) First thing in the morning (and even then never linked from it into a programme! always IVC or This Morning trailer after).

I don't remember more than 2 or 3 occasions over 10+ years when they introduced a non-news programme with an ident+voiceover.

They did, of course, use static slides before programmes, but only post-1988 (before then they'd use IVC even if it was only a couple of seconds), and they did occasionally use the "ITV Drama" ident with voiceover (although generally not).

This changed overnight on 1st January 1993 when YTV was controlling things more.

I bet there would have kept that ident even longer if there never had to merge with YTV, just like Grampian, who did that until 1997 ( STV takeover) It may be a crap ident but It was free and never really seen.

TTTV changed their ident in May 1991.

That ident used the ITV music, along with an animation they'd rejected in 1988 (hence the reason it looked dated by 1991/2, and also the reason it matched the 1988 Northern Life intro).

I suspect they may have used that ident with more backgrounds for a while longer if they'd remained indie.

jjne posted:
YTV's 3 ident came out exactly one month after C3NE, on the first week of October.

This will take us to Monday 7th October:

Here is some proof about Scotland today from Dec 99: around 28/29? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoldwsBlCM0
With the story also here: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-23768312.html Thus red set appear in early 2000.

The Carltonised Central idents were - I think - May 26th 1998.

That would make sense as the relaunch of CITV (with the return of in-vision) was on the same date, obviously a big day in Gas Street.

Ahhh it's all coming back to me now. Yes, the first bit of the package I saw was the Next pointer at the 1700 junction, and at first I didn't realise it was Central's presentation, it was predominantly yellow so I assumed it was to do with the new CiTV.

Another TV Ark error - they have the ITV/Central ident with the 1999 ITV logo dated as 1998. There was a 1998 one with the previous logo.

I get the feeling we may end up going through the WHOLE LOT, ie every single ident to try and get proper dates.

It's often been said that the cake was introduced regionally in 1985, this clip backs me up... (FF to 3:00)

Although I'm not sure when exactly, but it's well noted that when the cake was introduced, it was the beginning of the end of IVC on Central.

Thanks for that, alas that is not really an ident, but can be added to growing amount of information about the Cake:

From 1985 ( it seems 22nd October: ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvRhlb2Ad6g ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71fDgop38SI BUT Not proper cake ident but you can clearly see it's the cake,

Once again late 1985 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-7PC934z4U, but NOT the actually proper cake ident

I have spoken with T|V|A Archive about this and it does seem there several versions leading to this final design between 1983 - 1986, which is back up with the clips already seen.
