I found one of those Anglia (itv) idents, on VHS at my parents! I have no way of digitizing it however and I won't be home till easter, but yes they very much existed

Edit: although if my memory serves me correctly, wasn't the itv logo in grey?

I'm pretty sure it was in colour, going from memory of a small screengrab on the internet that I last saw years ago. Also, as Meridian's is full colour, it makes sense that Anglia's would be the same.

It's great that you have an example of it. Any idea what date it's from? It'd be great if you could get it online somehow.

It definitely aired before a "Midlands Bank sponsors ITV drama premiers" sponsorship, the drama itself I believe was about some kids in the countryside set around harvest time in the early 20th century (kinda thing my mum watched), if anyone can put a date to that?

They're programmes you can watch at the National Media Museum. Surely the link you clicked through would have told you that?

Just going back to this whole ITV logo on Anglia Flag/Meridian Sun-Moon idents, having a look on youtube, a clip of Meridian from February 1999 shows the Meridian ident without the ITV logo and there's a clip of Meridian in July 1999 with the ITV logo. Considering I remember seeing the Anglia without the ITV logo in June 1999, maybe it was introduced in July? Either that or both with and without were randomly used but that doesn't make sense to me.

Also, the idea of the regional idents being used occassionally during the early hearts era comes from this paragraph on TV Ark's Meridian page...

Quote:
In November 1999 several ITV stations took on a new generic identity based around the theme 'TV from the heart of life'. This resulted in the Meridian logo being shrunk into a small blue box.

Initially Meridian continued to use their 1998 yellow ident alongside the new set, usually only before regional programming.

If anyone out there can clear this up for me, I'd much appreciate it.

Anglia also had another ident that year - a 40th anniverary ident with the words 40 Years and the knight superimposed on the 1988 ident. It lacks any ITV branding.

Tyne Tees continued using their local ident before local shows, and YTV had a new set. So Meridian doing the same wouldn't surprise me.

*The cake is introduced
The "one to watch" launched around August 1985 for continuity purposes only with some junctions still using announcers in-vision. At this time, the ordinary Central ident was still being used at the start of programmes. It looked a bit odd linking from the cake to the globe, but it did happen. The networked cake production animation started in 1988 and lasted for around 12 months when it was decided by the network that only static prod caps were to be used. We obviously kept the animated cake locally. Hope this is helpful. By the way, the Central presentation caption for acquired programming was replaced with a Central cake end ident.

Scottish Television

* 1965-1985 you can thank MR STV! for these
An animated ident was introduced by 1965 in which the lion would spin inside a box , though this later modified as a simple zoom in following, according to some reports, a complaint from The Lord Lyon King of Arms, the man in charge of protecting Scotland's heraldry When colour began the lion continued to zoom but in pale blue. After the start of colour broadcasting, the lion rampant symbol was replaced within a year by a stylised 'STV' logo, which during its 15 year rein, change very little. The First version showed a zooming STV, by mid 70s it was updated with the letter comforming into the centre to make "STV". Throughout the 70s until 1985, this stylised was used as either a static caption, or form up from a pattered design that was supposed to represent tartan. Accompanying the look was a clock against a blue background with the white STV logo forming a pattern across the screen. The station's first theme was a specially composed piece by Geraldo entitled Scotlandia, which began each day's broadcasting - the theme continued to be heard until August 1985, this was accompanied At the climax by a slowly rotating '3D' STV 'illuminated name block' appeared. The 3D idents were usually produced from actual moving model

Border:

They may still have used the 1989 ITV generic ident into 1993; TV Ark has the opening sequence to "the first Lookaround of the New Year" using the titles thought to have been introduced that year. However, I can't find evidence at the moment to confirm the lead story featured in that sequence occurred in January 1993.

Tyne Tees:

In-vision continuity was still in use between February and November 1990:

Yorkshire Television:

The original 1989 version of their ITV generic ident was still being used in December 1990:
