Any chance of more info? I dont have a media guardian account to view the content. Also interesting to see Challenge with the US Open live on Sat & Sunday night.

It's concerning the Grand Slam event which is bringing together the PDC and BDO for an event in November.
This will be the first darts coverage on ITV since 1988, when they covered. the MFI World Matchplay Championship.
I believe that John Birt during his time at LWT cancelled the channel's coverage for being "low-brow" - or perhaps to appease the government as they drew their White Paper which led to the Broadcasting Act 1990.
Network ITV, anyway -- Tyne Tees knew their target audience, and were screening local competitions (including a couple at Studio 5) into the '90s, some with that funny "special" dartboard with the quadruple ring.
I think it was only the combination of the takeover, and the breaking off of the PDC that stopped these events being shown.
Will be slightly strange to see it back on ITV. Has to be said as well that with a lot of the BDO's biggest names defecting recently this competition has the potential to be a little one-sided.
This is great news for ITV! All they need to do now is bring back World of Sport to Staurdays now to take over the slot vacated by Grandstand on BBC1! A nice idea but it won't happen alas!
Who do you think will present the darts? Jim Rosenthal hopefully!!

Well, excluding Bullseye, natch.
What about Ian St.John, live from the Dial House Club in Sheffield in 1993?. He hadn't got a clue, but YTV sent a full OB for the three day event.
The last networked darts in ITV was the 1999 head- to- head between Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld, from the now- demolished Wembley conference centre. It was actually presented by Eamonn Holmes, with commentary from John Gwynne and Eric Bristow.
It was actually Greg Dyke's decision to axe darts from the network in the mid- 1980s. ITV's lead commentator in those days was Dave Lanning (now with Sky).
The early PDC tournaments were shown on ITV regionally, with a local torunament on Anglia, Tyne Tees and Yorkshire, all of whom used Dave Lanning and John Gwynne as commentators.
I find it unlikely Sky would release either of these two as commentators and allow them to work for ITV.
