I think you meant to say next year's series will be the last.

If Splash 2014 works better than the 2013 version, making it more like other international versions, tightening it up time wise and getting a better competitor cast, I can see it being expanded to cover the slot.

Can't see it myself. It did well in the ratings, but it seems much more of a novelty than Ice Skating.

It would be like replacing Strictly with Hole in the Wall.

I'm not the kind of person that watches a show like this religiously, but I'm surprised it's ending and I've never felt it's past its sell-by date. Strictly, which is pretty much identical albeit without ice, has been running for much longer. Of course any show like this depends on having good celebs on it - perhaps they just can't get good enough stars to sign up?

Indeed and its ratings weren't that amazing either. 5m on cold Saturday Nights in January isn't great tbh, The Magicians was getting similar on the BBC a year earlier and was axed. So you think you can dance before that was getting 6- 7m and its 2nd series utterly flopped when it moved to Spring/Summer.

I seriously can't, the format just doesn't have legs. Internationally Splash has done ok against very limited opposition but when it faces big shows like The X factor or The voice the ratings have dived massively. The recent Australian version had it's series run cut while on air and the massively promoted USA version flopped once The Voice returned to NBC.
Splash just isn't in the same league as big formats like The X factor, BGT or even Dancing on Ice.

Torvil and Dean said on this morning that they want to move on to other things.

It's certainly being sold as Torvill and Dean moving on, but I think ratings have forced the issue, even though it's probably ITV's highest rating entertainment show outside The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent.

I wouldn't be surprised (assuming XF USA isn't axed) to see the X Factor moved so the live shows air Jan-Mar, enabling Cowell to return.

Move X Factor out of the year's prime advertising period?

I think they would if it enabled Cowell to return, and they could still air the auditions and boot camp shows in the run up to Christmas.

Hold fast.
Didn't ITV announce (or at least it dribbled in to the press a few weeks ago) that they were lining up/developing their own celeb studio based dancing show - albit with a wider selection of modern and contemporary dance styles, to be aired just before the Strictly steamroller rumbles into the schedules in October?

If so, and it rates well - I think I may have just spotted the replacement for DOI - and I bet Pip will end up hosting it.

I just hope they get Holly Willoughby back for the final series....

Christine Bleak(ley) is god awful....
