Dancing on ice... the floor

i am in the unfortunate position of having a person in my household who enjoys watching 'dancing on ice'.

i can't say i've really watched it before, but one thing i would like to know is the patterns on the ice rink - are these projected from underneath somehow?

the lighting in the studio is really quite spectacular, but thae pattens on the rink seem to only be possible through rear projection but just how those lightening effects implemented?

Projection is from above - not below - AIUI. It is blended front projectors in the lighting rig.

Incidentally, the rest of the set seems to be the sets for The Crystal Maze and Blockbusters thrown together, poured into a boiling cauldron and then draped over the set to X F*cktor .

Were one or two missing from the former contestants in tonight's show - seemed a bit of a jump from those who were eliminated early to those who didn't seem to have been gone that long.

Just Samantha Mumba, I think...

Oh, no wonder I forgot who it was. "Film star Samantha Mumba" must have been busy filming then!
