Watching the previous versions of the DOI opening titles on Youtube make me realise how much I miss the old series including the titles, theme tune, ice rink/studio, on screen graphics etc
To me (and this is just my opinion) the previous incarnation of DOI was near perfect. Yes it had faults like all tv shows do, but compared to this new series, it was just so much better.
I am enjoying the new series, but they just seem to be making so many changes that just seem to be done for the sake of change and not because they are better or benefit the show in any way.
While there's still an element of the old DOI theme music in there, I have to say the new music pales in comparison to the old theme. The new one just sounds jumpy and almost cheap.
When you compare to the below there's no competition:
The old theme was brilliant - instantly catchy and epic sounding (particularly the drums at the start). Of all the things they needed to change with the return of DOI it was definetely something that didn't need tinkered with.
They have a problem with the judging panel it seems. The usual issue of the skaters judging on the skating and the dancers on the dance but probably worse now with the new set up. As alluded to on last nights show Torvill & Dean think the same about everything so effectively you have 2 judges but the same opinion so with the head judge status sitting with them it seems the outcome will always go their way. They are an unstoppable voting bloc.
I would agree with that. They could do with a fifth judge eliminating the need of a head judge.
However back in the first few series when they did have five judges it felt hard to warm to the judges given that they would have very little time to speak. Karen Kresge and Natalia Bestemianova being two notable examples as judges that only lasted one series and weren't particularly memorable.
Changing the voting order would help so it isn't choreography then skating. Really though it isn't controversial or a "fix" - its just exactly the same voting format they had for the last couple of series and exactly the same voting format that Strictly has.

With Strictly though there is a greater likelihood that the other 3 will determine the outcome without the head judge. So far Torvill & Dean judge as one.

On a similar note when did BGT change from the original theme tune to the 'jerky' one? (Not that they really use it too much these days)
Watching some clips from older series has made me wonder a couple of things, one is will they still do any of the flying routines? Can they even do it in the new studio?
Also will the final two still do a bolero performance or will they do something new?
Phillip just confirmed on This Morning that DOI has been commissioned for another series and will be back next year, while having a laughter breakdown...
