Could be ITV wanting to boost her profile, as the BBC so often do with their choice of Strictly contestants
The addition of Lucrezia Millarini is one of the oddest signings. She's not exactly one of ITV News's high profile presenters and is largely on in the London area with occasional network weekend and lunchtime cover.

Last time Barrymore went on a high profile TV show (Celebrity Big Brother) it was a blatant attempt to get himself back into the public eye. It didn't lead to much, maybe a bit of theatre and the odd guest appearance. Things get tooted and then that was it.
I saw him on Life Stories that went out recently. Still has a spark of comedy IMO, but realistically the days of being all over peak time ITV are long gone, and not just because the weeknight schedules are now full of soap. It might be a case of having to take what you can get these days.

I agree no chance really of Barrymore being on primetime tv whether BBC/ITV etc. looking back on something like Strike it Lucky/Rich repeats on Challenge the last few years and he was an outstanding presenter and got the most of of the people on the show and still stands up today as funny. Funny thing is a few years ago Barrymore may have been the presenter of something like Dancing on Ice but now he is a contestant.

No doubt it is off the back of the Life Stories, which was excellent but in between the sincerity he still would switch on his game show persona whenever things got a bit tough. I guess just like Lorraine Kelly plays a character Michael Barrymore (and indeed most comedians/presenters) play a public version of themselves.

In fairness when his career fell apart his only presence on TV at all between that happening and his Celebrity Big Brother in I think was it 2005? was in the form of repeats of Strike It Lucky and Strike It Rich on Challenge. But to be honest that show didn't run for 14 years because it was an amazing format, it was only saved by the host's larking around with the contestants. But then a lot of gameshows only survive due to the way they're packaged up and a suitable host.
I think if Barrymore fans are expecting him to trundle out onto the ice with Torville & Dean and shout "Alwight?" like it's Strike It Lucky on Ice then they are going to be disappointed. I suppose he's lucky really that he's going to be on mainstream TV at all, he could have been flogging Egyptian Cotton Towels on Ideal World.
