Well aside from who's copying whom, I think the set looks great. The lights on the ice itself are really effective. I'm not familiar with TV sets in the UK but where is it being shot from? It must be a huge studio!

As somebody said before on here, it's filmed at Elstree which has become a TV and film facility. I think The Weakest Link and My Family are filmed at Elstree too.

Home to Who Wants to be A Millionaire and currently Big Brother of course, don't think the Weakest Link comes from there.

BBC Elstree and Elstree Film & Television Studios are completely separate aren't they ?

I'm sure everyone knows EastEnders is filmed on the backlot at BBC Elstree. I don't think BBC Elstree and EF&TV Studios are seperate.

I had to notice on tonight's show, the commentator and presenters constantly said something along the lines of "well, what a great programme this is" before it had even got going! I call that lowest desperation for viewers. What annoys me, yes its a great format and everything, and great to have Torvil and Dean back in the limelight. I just really hate the presenter choice - not saying I hate Philip Schofield but it just seems there are no more choices available. Also, most of all the constant use of the 'celebrity' (to get viewers) in nearly every entertainment/reality show ITV produce. I feel there is a lack of that genre of programme featuring the general public as 'the stars' (i.e. Hells Kitchen). That said, of course there is The X Factor - but again, its completely mauled by the judges egos.

Sorry, just had to say my piece at 3.20 am! Wink

I refuse to watch this show as it is a shameless copycat of SCD. ITV moaned about the BBC putting it on and saying the BBC shouldn't be competing for audiences all the time, and that it was based on an old show. Then the f*ckers go and do their own version!! That just irritates me!

I know it'll be a big hit but I really want it to fail miserably.

BBC Elstree is the other side of Borehamwood high street from the totally sepearte Elstree film and TV studios (the home of BB, Millionaire...).

The program is the ice dance routine not the television programme.

The BBC has totally ruined any chance of a decent Winter Saturday night line-up by screening an FA Cup tie every three weeks, meaning nothing can be regularly scheduled in the slot - so ITV should do alright out of this.

Did they ever explain how the judges vote / viewers vote was split? I personally think the first round scoring should just lead to the pair at the top of the leaderboard being safe, with the viewers vote then solely determining the bottom two and the judges then deciding who goes.

Only around 15 miles out.
Weakest Link and My Family are recorded at Pinewood Studios.

From MediaGuardian:

Viewers' appetite appetite for sashaying celebrities showed no signs of declining on Saturday night when over 11 million people tuned into ITV's Dancing on Ice.
At its peak, roughly half the available audience tuned in to watch the likes of Dame Kelly Holmes, Bonnie Langford, David Seaman and Tamara Beckwith dance over the cold stuff.

The 100-minute opener to the eight-week series helped ITV to a bumper ratings night after its lineup, which also included the Soapstar Superstar final and ratings warhorse Who Wants to be a Millionaire, grabbed a 32.6% peak time share.

Peaking with 11.1 million viewers at 19.45pm, Dancing on Ice averaged 9.5 million viewers and a 43% share , off last year's high of 10.75 million for a December 18 outing of Strictly Come Dancing, but not by much.

Sparks flew on Saturday night when Dancing on Ice, ITV1's new celebrity talent extravaganza, attracted a cool average of 9.5 million (42.4%) at 6.30pm.

Dancing on Ice, in which Torvill and Dean attempt to teach celebrities to skate, including David Seaman and Andi Peters, ran for 100-minutes and hit a peak of 10.5 million (45.7%) at 7.45pm.

The new ITV1 format secured a 45% share of housewives viewing, a 44% share of ABC1 adults and a 37% share of 16-34-year-olds. The talent show achieved a higher opening share for a new series than Strictly Come Dancing, Popstars, Popstars: The Rivals, Pop Idol or X Factor.

Dancing on Ice outstripped competition by miles; The Weakest Link came second at 6.45pm with 3.8 million (16.9%), followed by The National Lottery - Millionaire Manor which got 4.8 million (20.8%) at 7.40pm.

A repeat of Invasion's opening double bill on C4 managed 1.2 million (5%) from 7.10pm to 9.10pm.

Before Dancing on Ice, the final of Soapstar Superstar kicked off with 6.7 million (33.3%) - more than double BBC1, its nearest competitor, managed with a new series - The Sound of Musicals - which had 3.2 million (15.2%) from 5.50pm until 6.45pm.

On C4 at this time, Noel Edmund's surprise hit game show, Deal or No Deal had a healthy 2.2 million (10.6%) in a scheduling switch with Supernanny US, which debuted in this slot last week, from 5.55pm until 6.40pm.

Later in the evening, Soapstar Superstar's results show at 9.10pm pulled in 8.3 million (34%) in the face of tough competition.

Celebrity Big Brother in the same slot had only 3.1 million (12.9%), hitting a peak of 3.6 million (15%) at 9.45pm.

On BBC1, the second episode in the new series of Sea of Souls ensnared 5.4 million (22.3%) in the 9.10pm slot and the film Sylvia got 1.1 million (4.8%) for BBC2 between 9.10pm and 11pm.

Five aired a repeat of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation to an audience of 1.9 million (7.7%) at 9.10pm.

At 9.40pm, the Dancing on Ice Results show didn't manage to build on the success of the earlier opening show - it managed 6.4 million (26.9%) over 30 minutes.

And what you may ask is the BBC's big hopes for Saturday nights? This piece of crap here hosted by Vernon Kay and Tess Daly!! God help us!! Crying or Very sad
