Yet another celebrity-filled show. Enough said. Obviously running out of presenters - hence using kids TV presenters. Rolling Eyes Pathetic!

It is blatantly Strictly Come Dancing on Ice, down to the graphics and voting mechanism, but it is quite a while since ITV first mentioned the idea as Stars on Thin Ice.

Anyhow regardless of that, surely if the professional dancers were actually any good they'd be in training for the Winter Olympics now, wouldn't they!

They don't have to be amateurs anymore.

Pretty much the entire USA Ice Hockey team plays professionally in the NHL

Well aside from who's copying whom, I think the set looks great. The lights on the ice itself are really effective. I'm not familiar with TV sets in the UK but where is it being shot from? It must be a huge studio!

As somebody said before on here, it's filmed at Elstree which has become a TV and film facility. I think The Weakest Link and My Family are filmed at Elstree too.

Well, tonight's Dancing on Ice was a superb programme! Phillip Schofield did a great job presenting it, as did Holly Willoughby. You can always count on Phillip Schofield to do a good job presenting a programme. Very Happy

The set was fantastic...the theme tune was superb...and the ice dancing great, although I suspect we will see better dancing in the next 7 weeks. Although it may have several elements of Brucie's show, it isn't really an exact copy. Ice dancing is completely different to ball room dancing. And probably a lot more challenging...as well as DANGEROUS! Surprised

I believe many viewers will watch this as it is a great and watchable programme. You also have that element of danger too - you may see some one fall flat on their face...or flung into the side railings...or hurt themselves. Not everyone's cup of tea and I hope noone gets serously hurt during the programme, but there is that added extra in this programme that you wouldn't get in Bruce's show.

I think ITV have a major hit on their hands here - one of the better shows they have produced in recent years on a Saturday night and illustrates they don't just rely on The X Factor, Pop Idol and WWTBAM to entertain us on a Saturday night. for most of the year...and then screen duff flop programmes for the remainder of the year! Rolling Eyes

And with Harry Hill returning next week, ITV should dominate the ratings by quite a margin! Very Happy WELL DONE!

What do people think?

Home to Who Wants to be A Millionaire and currently Big Brother of course, don't think the Weakest Link comes from there.

BBC Elstree and Elstree Film & Television Studios are completely separate aren't they ?

Yes two separate entities and I think Weakest Link might come from Pinewood come to think of it.

Juicy Joe is right the show will be a hit as it appeals to the SCD crowd plus they've got nothing decent on Saturday night for the next few weeks. BBC1 are missing that big Noel's House Party type hit that can run from October through to March; and also apart from SCD they haven't been able to develop anything remotely as good for Saturday nights.

Don't forget Dr Who! That's the only other Saturday night hit the BBC have, apart from SCD, at the moment. It's still a big improvement on a couple of years ago, though.

Well that goes without saying but I was thinking of light entertainment formats. Having said that maybe family drama instead of light entertainment will be the thing that makes Saturday nights on BBC1 more successful.

I think the only decent shows to look out for on Saturday nights in the year are:-

The X Factor
Strictly Come Dancing
Doctor Who
Come and Have a Go!
Harry Hill's TV Burp
Dancing on Ice

and that's it really.

Back to the main subjext now - how were the judges and the phone votes combined??? And also, how did Phillip have the card with the results in his hand 10 seconds before the phonelines closed?
