At least Philip is giving this programme some gravitas.
He really is building things up and presenting really well.
Unlike Fern and co on Soapstar Superstars. They are both competant presenters but I felt as if both of them know they are presenting a bit of a turkey - whereas Philip and Holly are really going for this Ice programme.
Will give it a go!

A more blatant copy of Strictly Come Dancing/Strictly Ice Dancing than you will see anywhere else. ITV are turning into FOX in America. But it will be a success because BBC1 will be showing a bloody awful show about musicals for the next few weeks and The Weakest Link which is waaaaaaay past its sell by date.

Well we should start a new thread for Dancing on Ice since it will be one of the biggest shows this month.
First of, who would ever think that Holly off Saturday Showdown would present this? Though it would be a shock if both Holly and Steven presented it together!

Oh come off it!
ITV revealed ages ago that they were doing this programme. it was revealed after the success of Strictly Come Dancing. Later then the BBC announced their intention of Strictly Come Dancing On Ice. It's no worse than BBC doing Fame Academy!

The BBC had no business doing Fame Academy either, a dreadful rip-off that didn't set ratings alight. But the BBC found a show that did with SCD because it was different to what the ITV were doing. I'm no fan of shameless copying no matter who does it, whether it's Saturday Night Takeaway (Noel's House Party) or this.

I don't see why skating is deemed the same as dancing! Strictly Come Dancing versus an ice skating programme is a very tedious link to say one is a copy of the other!

ITV is to take on the BBC with its own ice-skating show and has signed the king and queen of the ice rink, Torvill and Dean, to front it.

The Granada show, Stars on Thin Ice, comes on the back of news that the BBC will launch one-hour special Strictly Come Dancing on Ice this Christmas. ITV has yet to set a broadcast date for its show.
Stars on Thin Ice, commissioned by ITV controller of entertainment Claudia Rosencrantz, will see Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean coach a team of celebrities to ice-dance. Each week one of the stars will be kicked off the show until the grand finale where the winner will be announced.
Each celebrity will team up with a professional ice-skater and Torvill and Dean will oversee the celebrities who will have to perform a different routine every week.
The programme will be executive produced by Will Smith and Michele Carlisle. The number of episodes has yet to be confirmed, but producers hope it will become a regular fixture.
BBC entertainment sources said the ice show could be made into a long-running series as a companion piece to its entertainment hit Strictly Come Dancing. The same team that produces Strictly Come Dancing will produce the BBC ice-skating show.

They're both dancing competitions, featuring celebrity/professional couples, a panel of judges, presented by a team of male broadcasting veteran/female relative newcomer. The only difference is one is set on ice, one is not!!
Can you seriously believe that ITV didn't decide to create a very similar show to SCD off the back of its success?
There is certainly something more than a tenuous link!!

It is blatantly Strictly Come Dancing on Ice, down to the graphics and voting mechanism, but it is quite a while since ITV first mentioned the idea as Stars on Thin Ice.
Anyhow regardless of that, surely if the professional dancers were actually any good they'd be in training for the Winter Olympics now, wouldn't they!
