Just what BBC1 needs is another dancing competition. Are they on 52 weeks of the year now?

Not dissimular to ITV's music talent output really! If you're going to critisise another broadcaster of being obsessed with a genre, at least get your own house in order first Wink

Why does it have to come down to a comparison with ITV ?

This is a thread about BBC's obsession with the dance genre, the BBC have every opportunity to invent outside of commercial pressures, yet they churn out the same genre ad nauseum.

Strictly Come Dancing, Strictly Dance Fever, Dance X, Eurovision Dance Contest to name a few. And then on Sunday they even start showing the US version of SCD, Dancing with the Stars.

I think it was Terry Wogan who attacked the BBC a few years back for "beating an idea to death". How right was he, at the moment the dance genre on the BBC is within an inch of it's life.

Ironic that since BBC One got rid of the dance idents, we now have more dance talent shows than ever.

Yes, that's a good observation. As a result, no symbol particularly fitting is going to introduce the upcoming shows - unless they add one with people dancing in a circle of course; wonder how likely that'd be?

Back in the R&M days it'd either be Tango, Music Vid Mad or Salsa (which I always thought was best suited to something overly inoffensive and 'lite' like most daytime TV, or Songs of Praise...)

Ring O' Roses would be best suited I suppose.

Don't go putting ideas into their heads!

Guys, give a show a chance before you criticise it!

Well I'll be watching Dance X this evening. Not sure what it will be like, I'll soon see.

Last autumn, I watched (and enjoyed) the series Strictly Come Dancing on BBC1, but didn't bother seeing the sister programme Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on BBC2 in the week.

What a pity Jimmy Tarbuck had to drop out so early on health grounds. Had that not been necessary, I bet he'd have lasted until around half way through the series.

Quite right. Strictly Come Dancing focused solely on ballroom and latin dancing , which included the following:

American Smooth
Cha Cha Cha
Foxtrot
Jive
Paso Doble
Quickstep
Rumba
Salsa
Samba
Tango
Viennese Waltz
Waltz

However besides ballroom and Latin, dance around the world also includes the following:

African dancing
Ballet dancing
Bollywood dancing
Break dancing
Cheerleading
Chinese dancing
Flamenco dancing
Greek dancing
Highland dancing
Hip-Hop
Indian dancing
Irish dancing
Latvian dancing
Line dancing
Street dancing
Tap dancing

Any chance of seeing any of these on Dance X?

Plus BBC one is showing Dancing with the stars on sunday afternoons..........

Personally I'm not complaining!

Anyway... it seems this programme is just the usual build-up emotional nonsense that the rest of all these talent shows have.. "You can/can't be part of Dance X" then Ben Shepherd greets them all with the old X factor hug...yawn.

Its now pointless to me, they could make emotion out of people joining a paper factory (no offence to people working in a paper factory). "You can/can't be part of Paper Parlour"

This is arguably the worst programe ever made, I watched it last night (agaist my wishes) and it was completely dfferent to how it looked in the trailer. It is incredibly boring. This is something that ITV would come up with not the BBC. I cannot believe I pay a licence fee for this ****!

I agree - it was utterly dull. Maybe because this was the auditions programme, designed to introduce the audience to the concept and the people. First episodes of new programmes are notoriously hard to get right and do well. Big Brother does first programmes fabulously well. I'm not sure DanceX will be such a hit following such a dreary first outing.
