I really do hope the globe comes back in some form or another as it is sadly missed. Those dancers were the biggest load of rubbish I have ever seen. It will be interesting to see what will be in place of them.

The globe has been the symbol of BBC News since 1993, and the globe was used as the BBC1 symbol up to 2002, so I don't think that's everything to do with it.

No no...

The globe has been used on BBC News and BBC One together in perfect harmony for decades.

Late 70's titles used the globe

Globe/Map was used on the 1988-1993 Six O' Clock news titles (the pack of cards titles)

And I'm sure the globe has been used in news for a lot longer than that.

Exactly, they've co-existed before and they can co-exist again and I'm sure people won't be confused!

I think that if the BBC '1' get updated a bit then BBC one could go back to using idents from 1991 - 1997 channel 4 style, if you get what im trying to say!:

Just one of many examples of the things that could be done with the'1' the only limit is the person's imagination. Look at this page to see some of the things they did at Christmas, far more inventive than the globe.

Those stings were great. Shame BBC didn't chose to go down that route back then.

The globe was the symbol for BBC TV when it started, and it became the ident for BBC1 when BBC2 was introduced. Have a look here.

I think this was the best era for presentation, the "1" was so versatile, and as you've hinted, was a little ahead of its time perhaps! I liked the balloons eventually as they became more imaginative with the later ones, like the Blackpool Tower one.

I like the dancers! I'll be sad to see them go.

Finaly sumone agrees with me. as ive said before they have duone their purpose an they are easaly recognisable as is the box logo.

I cant understand why they would want to get rid of something modern and unusual to replace it with something probably not as good
