why can't they keep the dancer!, and SAVE the money for better uses liek GIVE us a cheaper TV FEE or
better still go back to the big ballon ideant

It's a case of universal panning from viewers & media alike. Not many people can really warm to them, like the celebs on ITV1, however it will probably take a little longer for them to replace their's as some people will be keeping a close eye on the replacement

I don't think anybody really warmed to the celeb idents. I just think Lambie-Nairn or whoever TV companies go to are just very good at telling them crap they want to hear and getting money out of them. All of that rubbish Jane Root and people in ITV were talking about saying that if the idents looked the same people would know what channel they were watching!! If you put good shows on people will watch, like Richard Hillman on Coronation Street or A Touch Of Frost on ITV and The Office or Coast on BBC2. Just put on good shows, there was no need to get rid of idents that worked on BBC2 or all of that regional history & identity on ITV.

I used to wonder myself! Luckily, Dean was on hand to tell...

Whatever happens, we will probably have the current idents for at least another year. A rumour mill on Digital Spy forum says that the globe will be brought back. This is probably twaddle. I honestly see no reason why they should bring the globe back. I think they should though, but I can't see them going backwards. a speedier, more simplistic ident should be used, and yes, in allegiance with other posters, a stylised '1" should be used. The versatility and longevity of that is astounding.

I maybe in the minority here, but i actually like the BBC1 dancers. They have done their purous and that is to get people talking and to get recognised (and that they have done). The BBC1 dancers are far nicer than the globe and baloon (the baloon became boring after a year or two) and are a million times better than ITV1's idents.
The only thing i do have againsed them is that they show the same 2 or 3 for a long period of time before showing a different one.

And another thing that im probably in the minoraty about is the channel logo box. I actualy like these too. they are classy, simple and easaly recognisable.

Well it looks like I've been pronouncing it wrong for ages then!

If ITV can get a new look this year why does is it taking BBC1 so long to do it? No need for a review or research or spending huge sums of money, just go back to what you had before. The problem is TV companies always think you need to move on and progress, but sometimes newer ideas can never beat the earlier ones. Either bring back the balloon or go further back and bring back the stylised '1' from 1991.

The '1' might seem dull to some people but it's what you do with it that makes it standout. Just like at the glory years of the MTV idents.

I always thought they shoudl have kep that "1" in some shape or form, even if it was in the caption of the balloons

It was always in the shadow of its sibling on BBC2.

When the 1991 idents launched, I believed both channels were finally getting a long-term identity. And why not? Lambie-Nairn designed them and their Channel 4 logo was now a design classic. If the symbols would only be around for the usual 6 or 7 years, why bring in an external agency? Why bother to erect "1" and "2" neon signs outside TVC if this was the case?

But clearly we had not seen the last of the six-yearly reviews.
