Don't worry! Peter Fincham, the new BBC1 controller who took over when Heggessey resigned (thank f*ck) said that he plans a rebrand in 2008. Three years will fly past us.

As for the best idents, Channel 4 is the top IMO. Back to the 3D logo in 21st century style. BBC2's are excellent aswell. Despite the fact that they have little variation due to one colour, yellow, in every single ident, the infamous "2" is still here and will probably be around for years to come.

God Joe.....2008! That's ages. I'll have more than had enough of those dancers by then. Do you realise that it would mean the balloon lasted for 4 and a half years and the dancers over 6 years!!! That would be the same length of time as the last spinning 1991 globe.

I hope he comes to his senses and reviews the pres package and idents before then.

Well, let's hope so. The laserdisc globe was just one ident on its own and that lasted six and a half years, so there's a chance that a multiple ident package will last as long. If 2008 is the scheduled rebrand date, then, as one poster said, were only halfway through the dancers' reign of torture.

I thought the ITV1 celeb idents sort of worked because they had clear recognisable celebrities involved,

The idea's OK, but not all the "Stars" they use are instantly recognisable for a casual observer. Especially soap stars.

Please keep the dancers. If the globe comes back now or in the future. It'll make BBC1 the 'dated' channel like BBC4 is now. It's had it's day, 40 years is a hell of a long time for it 2 be on screen.

Maybe ITV could have a spinning ident next

In what way is BBC 4 dated? Just because the target audience are intelligent (and far more so than you) middle aged people that doesn't mean it's dated. They show some good programmes. And their identity is much better than BBC 1...

I hate the dancers. The ballet dancers are bad - one girl in particular mis-times her arabesque shamefully. The ones who kick their legs in the rain - ok, I realise they're a turn on for the sadder, more lecherous mid-life-crisis-in-their-armchair male viewers out there, but for the rest of us, they're just pathetic. Then there's the salsa class in the church hall. Please. Stop it. Stop it now.

There were some pensioners doing Tai Chi on Breakfast one morning last week... didn't look right without the music or red outfits

Is the BBC one chavs ident using the original music that it had, or is that my imagination?

...and the original is still used in Scotland. Sounds a lot better to be honest.

It is the better music of the two IMO, but one thing that's baffled me -- if the original track was pulled due to copyright infringement (that was the rumour), why is Scotland still using it?

Another reason I've heard, is that the version Network has now, was the planned original, but it wasn't ready for the ident launch, so library music was used.

There is some logic in the copyright rumour, in that the original music seems quite sample-heavy. But it's anyone's guess.

And the BBC FOUR Idents would've been the last to get old on my list. They are arguably the most unique idents in a long, long time.

I don't think it would be library music because it has the BBC One tune to it. I guess we'll never know. Sad
