The most intriguing part of the Brand Republic article is this...

"It is likely the new idents or theme for the idents, whether it be focusing on a new colour or the globe symbol, will roll out across all BBC channels so it can brand itself across all its platforms. "

http://www.brandrepublic.com/bulletins/br/article/492667/bbc-one-ditch-wheelchair-ethnic-minority-idents-/

It certainly seems to imply that this new symbol may be included in other BBC channels' idents, too. Interesting...

Though hopefully the new "symbol" will be more interesting than ITV's squares, which have been spread across its channels in a similar way (and which ironically is a strategy about to be dropped by ITV, in favour of a more BBC style of giving each channel its own identity...).

Still, it's only one sentence in one article, and as we've seen many times before, one can't take these comments as truth until we see the actual outcome, especially at this early stage.

Channel 4 is too arty and subtle for most people to clock it, and Five is just dull.

I actually think Channel Four's current lot is better than all the others that came after the original blocks.

five's branding isn't as good as Four's, and perhaps not as memorable as TWO's (given the '2' is a familiar symbol), but I think that five Ident with the slo-mo bullet is pretty cool stuff...

... as was the one with the five on an ultrasound scan - although (as shown) BBC TWO had already come up with the idea, more than a decade earlier!

You're right everything that came after the original blocks on Channel 4 was awful, circles, lines, utter crap. The new logos are far more innovative but the 4 SHOULD be revealed at the end, they don't stay on it long enough. And what were these Central idents that Stokoe worked on?

I don't know about the circles.

Hmm! Some of those are a bit unspectacular and downright dull.

Just in case some of you haven't realised, I was feeling a bit bored so I decided to make up an article. The Central graphics people have not been commissioned to produce the new BBC One identity! Sorry if this has caused any offence, it was only intended as a bit of a joke.

I like the fact that the 4 is only displayed briefly, to resolve on the 4 would be too obvious. The problem with them though is that there aren't enough varients and also they do seem a little out of place with the animating transparent 4 used in the junctions (which is great).

As for previous Channel 4 graphics, the circles were ok if a little arty. The 4 in a square branding they got rid of last year was very good and, more importantly, versatile

It was obvious to me straight away as media.guardian isnt updated on the weekends (the Edinbourgh festival being the exception). You must have a very boring life to sit there and make stuff up like that!

So just a few more months of those really horrid dancers! I have been saying for ages how naff they were but everyone just moaned at me......Peter Fincham is obviously a hugely intelligent man!

I'm so gutted!! Sad But all the other stuff about the idents going, reported on other sites IS true. Therefore the decision as to what the replacements should be hasn't been made yet!! So this would be the perfect opportunity to get in Mr Fincham's ear about the wonder of '1' from 1991. Johnny83, whiteside 2005 are you with me? Very Happy
