True Asa - but I guess the difference is SCD (and similar shows) have always been live events, so there is a presumption there I guess - and probably quite a few confused letters to various outlets over how Kenny Logan got to Paris so quickly tonight.
The real deception is the justification the BBC have given for moving it - some rubbish about more pro dancing and behind the scenes stuff, when in reality it's more about boosting their poor Sunday night ratings.
I'd be surprised if this set up continues till the end of the series - probably does depend on the afore mentioned ratings.
Honestly you people sound like a bunch of Daily Mail readers.
The answer to not getting stung by TV deception is to not vote for ridiculous talent contests and viewer competitions.
Beyond that it shouldn't matter a flying fig when a programme is taped or how many frocks and hairstyles the talent go through.
Get a grip of yourself. It's embarrassing to be on a forum about the machinations of telly and have half you here expect it to be anything other than "deception".
Is this deception/fakery issue now getting a bit OTT though? Should Des stop saying "Welcome to Countdown on this Friday. Carol, are you looking forward to the weekend?" when we know full well the programmes are recorded in bulk months earlier?
Yes. Better still, he should stop referring to Carol altogether. But ending the moronic pretence that it's live would be a start.

Sadly there are still plenty of mugs willing to throw away their cash...

Maybe it's not crucial the main programme itself is live, but surely it's not unreasonable to expect a "live" result show to be exactly that? As recent events have proved, a taped results show could easily have been filmed while the phone lines were still open, so doing it live gives a greater impression of transparency.

Thats how telly is made.
The way certain newspapers have been carrying on lately it's a wonder Peter Fincham didn't have to go earlier because the BBC1 swimming hippos aren't real(!) But there's a clear line between creative "deception" used to convey an otherwise impossible scenario in an ident and treating your audience with contempt, such as making up a fake competition winner or disregarding viewers' wishes regarding the name of a pet cat.
The specific allegations of competition entry fraud is one thing, how TV programmes are put together is something quite different.
Once you start getting into explaining every cutaway and every prerecorded segment then you totally destroy the flow of the programme.
Neither Bruce nor the co-presenter used the word "live".
With the caveat in place that the public shouldn't be ripped off then I see no need to be told that programmes may be recorded in bulk, or in the morning or the night before.
The public don't need to know the rest, and to tell them the minutia of filming shedules is pandering to idiots.
I'm fed up with this nonsense being dragged though the press, but must we have endless "disgusted from Tumbridge Wells" posts here?
Aren't TV Forumers bright enough to know that most television is pre-recorded?
Very valid points Gavin, but it does still seem a very backwards step.
Quite, and having now had chance to get up to speed with the SCD case it seems a very bad error of judgement to have the results show pre-recorded but not the main contest - the exact reverse of how things should be. It sends out the message that after so many trust scandals the BBC simply does not learn its lesson at a time when they ought be be going out of their way to regain public trust.
The phone lines, we are told, closed at 9pm but what's to say the results show wasn't recorded at 8:45pm? Only those in the studio would know when exactly it was taped. (Imagines the floor manager briefing the audience before taping, "in light of recent issues we ask please that you do not publicly discuss your experiences as part of our audience, either on internet message boards or to the popular press. Thanks for your support.")
