Anybody know where the show was filmed as the studios are huge and much bigger than Fountain?

Looking at the audience though they don't look that "British".

Thanks.

Wherever its done, the staging is pretty impressive! Watching on delay, but the intro to the first dance using the whole studio including round the back of the audience was very clever.

The sets really do look incredible. Does anyone know if it is a TV studio or a converted warehouse or something? It's absolutely huge and looks much bigger than anything we have in the UK.

I believe there's a lot of VR in the set. Seem to recall reading something like that.

I believe it's filmed at Studio 22 at Mediapark in the Netherlands (the studio that houses The Voice of Holland). A great space, but they're using augmented reality to make it even more impressive. (Elements of the sets are virtual and only visible to viewers at home).

I do think you soon get over the augmented reality. Ultimately IMO what makes Strictly work isn't so much the dancing but the choreography - and when the show is based around ripping off existing choreography it's difficult to be impressed.

If ITV really want a Strictly show of their own they need to do something with a real point of difference. I don't know - maybe doing it on ice or something!

There had one Dancing on ice and that work. Maybe there should think about bring it back. Maybe have some new ice skaters to be in charge? but give T&D a judges spot?

The studio is very impressive with the virtual reality. Is the physical set built within a cyc or something? Content of the show itself though is just Let's Dance for Sports Relief or Lip Sync Battle for dancing and it's a bit poor.
ITV on Sundays has never been the same for me since the DOI and Wild at Heart days.

It is indeed Studio 22 - I emailed ITV and asked and they came back and confirmed it. Apparently they are looking for audiences for a new series of it too according to a quick Google search, so it must have been commissioned for a second series already?

I think the reason Dancing on Ice wasn't quite the hit it deserved to be is that, like Splash, The Jump and whatever that Gymnastics show was called, in the first weeks they generally were a little underwhelming to watch - the competitors were naturally quite unsure of themselves. These were reliant on terrifically difficult skills to master for beginners. Ballroom/Latin dancing is no walk in the park either, but I would argue that many performers who have taken part in Strictly have at some point in their lives danced, whereas some of the competitors in Dancing on Ice et al have only skated, ski-ed or dived occasionally. I'm sure that's a rash generalisation, but I have been blown away by some debut dancers on Strictly, whereas I was only ever disappointed with the debut skates on DoI. Such a shame because I actually rather enjoyed DoI and even the second series of Splash. Even The Jump is entertaining, if only for the larking around in the glüwein chalet Wink

Dancing On Ice was a big hit, though, the first few series got enormous ratings, I think more than Strictly at the time. It collapsed a bit over time, but presumably a lot of that is due to the limitations of the format in that there is a finite number of things you can do on ice.

It was odd, though, because Dancing On Ice seemed to break all the rules of these kind of shows - it got longer as it went on, the contestants were complete nobodies, it was the most contrived programme ever made and when they had a funny Ed Balls-esque contestant in Todd Carty they voted him out straight away, and yet it used to get massive ratings. Not that I could ever watch it, in case someone died on it.
