Radio 4 is, of course, like that in general, or at least its news output is. Dan's just adapting his style to suit the medium on which he's broadcasting. Listen to him on Janice Long's Radio 2 show late at night and you get a style that's even less formal than on television, while he appears in general to be a little toned down on BBC1 than he is on News 24.
It just shows him to be a very versatile broadcaster - yet another talent to add to the list.

I was quite intrigued to hear Dan doing the weather on Radio 4 one Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago. He seems rather more subdued than normal on there, although still the usual Dan outcue.
