Call me cynical, but wouldn't ITV just love this as an opportunity to nudge Ofcom into accepting constant on-screen advertising by having the supplying supermarket's logo visible on every product. I know they mentioned it in the credits before but I seem to remember the own-brand goods always had the logo blanked out.

you're cynical!

Anyway it would be good to see Supermarket Sweep back, I'm sure it would be a hit with students and housewives, who would love to go wild in Dale's aisles and answer every question with the suffix Dale!

LOL

Right, fun over...

It would be nice to see it back! And with dale at the helm it could be just as good many years ago!

if there could just bring back,
Strike it Rich
play your cards right,
and Decent catchphase then we're have our game shows back!

Seems ironic a lot of the quiz that have been revived were filmed at Lenton Lane Studios in Nottingham, yet ITV these studios claiming they were superfluous! Laughing

If ITV want to bring out more daytime gameshows, great. Good idea.

However, is it *that* hard to come up with some new formats? I know it costs time and money to source new ideas by one's self, but surely there are still viable overseas formats that could be bought in?

An immediate one that comes to mind is the old "Press Your Luck" (CBS 1980s). This was featured on the US Gameshow Marathon and seemed reasonable. OK it might not work in 2006 on a small budget, but it surely can't be too hard to find something?

What's the betting that if/when Supermarket Sweep returns, it'll end up scheduled in the 5pm timeslot . . . ?

You sure? I've only watched a couple of episodes of the new version but I'm fairly sure they've mentioned many brand names where it adds nothing but exposure for the company concerned. Maybe it is a bit far fetched, but I wouldn't put it past them.

They should bring back quiz shows to the 9.25am slot as they worked there. I felt when they moved shows like Supermarket Sweep to the afternoons they stopped working.

But ITV bosses are now talking to producers TalkbackThames about bringing it out of retirement. The show catapulted perma-tanned comic Dale to fame and was a favourite with housewives, OAPs and bored students.

I was one of the latter back in 1994!

I agree that the game shows should return to the 9:25. Nothing like being a student, having a lie in and waking up to the ITV morning game show, be it Supermarket Sweep, Chain Letters or Win, Lose or Draw with Bob Mills.

P.S. Notice now our local Asda has self service checkouts - so how do they make sure you scan everything you buy!

If it's anything like the system they use in Tesco (NCR) then it'll have all the weights of the products loaded into the system, and as you scan them in the system will check the total weight of the current items scanned in so far against that of the bag - if it detects any inconsistencies it will have a hissy fit and call an assistant over by flashing something up on the ops screen. It'll also have a similar hissy fit if the item you've scanned isn't bagged or if you place additional items into the bag that have not been scanned. Plus there's often one or more members of staff watching at the end of the lane near the ops screen and the area is covered in CCTV.

They've got them in my local ASDA in Bloxwich & they're **** !!

I once spent 10 mins trying to bloody scan a cake & gave up in the end.

I noticed no assistant noticed my plight & came to help!

Don't worry about it being off topic(I don't !)

Off the top of my head, there's 4 of these checkouts & maybe 10 to 15 normal ones, but not all used at the same time, plus the audio/video counter one!

I think it would be better off if you used the ones that aren't automated. Least you don't have to call an assistant over, if (s)he is sitting in front of you!! I don't trust the self-service ones down my local Tesco, they freak me out! Embarassed
