The Mail always has it's head up it's ar*e, Private Eye lampoons this perfectly with such made up headlines as "Fast Food Is Bad For You, House Prices To Rise" and the like with the Daily Mail Logo above
Do those who slag off the Mail actually bother to read beyond the headlines? These may be eye-catching but there's much truth in what they write about, increasingly how law-abiding citizens are criminalised for daring to take on yobs.
They often make valid points about how Big Brother hero-worships trailer trash like Charley Uchea while validly highlighting the show's negative portrayal of black people, and few people could reasonably argue the Mail's campaign against "super casinos" - and the resulting government climbdown - was a bad thing.

I read it once before & it annoyed me, just to far up it's own ar*e, although most papers are up their own ar*e nowadays anyway *cough*Daily Star*cough*Daily Express*cough*
heh, I always thought the daily mail did overplay stuff in its headlines tho. Its usually about house prices or how X is dangerous to your health, immigrants will kill us all etc etc. Its definatly one of the most right leaning papers we have.

yeah, you have no idea how angry I get at how far down this country has gone in terms of controlling its kids. Its downright insane that a bunch of 12/14 yr olds can kill a man simply for telling them to leave his car alone. I'm actually glad that the media is in overdrive about this at the moment, it might mean something might get done(haha)
Hear hear. I would particularly welcome a change in the law allowing citizens to physically restrain yobs (using reasonable force) and allow the use of minor physical chastisement - without fear of assault charges - where one's personal safety could otherwise be compromised.
Take away the yob's "rights" and when they realise they don't have any, that will make them change their ways...
Also considering that teachers now have to deliver official warnings three times before being allowed to use 'minimal force' on a student attacking another student.
But we digress. Perhaps this should be discussed at Metropol so this can be kept strictly to BBC Bashing Watch.

You do make some valid observations there, but surely wouldn't it be better if papers reported on these things objectively, rather than "making points" about things?
I think there is enough spin, bias and slick PR out there as it is. I'd rather that papers didn't add to it; but cut through it and report the actual truth-- rather than persuing their own agendas/interests at the expense of their readers.
As somebody commented before, Private Eye is brilliant at papers' moralistic, but often hypocritical, behaviour.

I'm forever telling the kids off in my village. They were throwing stones at a young lad the other day and one of the stones made its way into my salon only just missing my clients 2year old daughter. I downed tools and gobbed off to them and told ring leader if they do it again i'll get a brick and launch at his parents window. They then sheepishly disappeared off to the park. Fortunately my gob is enough to scare them without getting physical. I know they call me all the names under the sun behind my back. I don't care though. If it means they stop throwing things at kids and old ladies waiting for a bus they can call me what the hell they want.
While on the subjects of bus stops. What is the fascination of kids and bus stops? They never get on a damned bus when it turns up.
Something for the daily mail to do an investigative report on.
Should i take this over to metropol?
