This great episode of Mr. Bean was due to be shown on ITV1 tonight at 8:00PM. It was, however, not shown beacuase of a special update on that terrible earthquake disaster in Asia. The narrator said it would be shown at a later date - a bit open ended that statement isn't it? I assume it will be shown tomorrow though.
According to a member on this forum (I couldn't remember their name - apologies), this episode was the second one to be shown - first airing on 16th October 1991. So it's thirteen years old - but still a great episode though IMO.

its rather inconsiderate of those 23,000 to go and die, isn't it. they could have atleast waited till mr bean had been shown.

That ITV News bulletin made me feel sick - not cos of the images and the situation, but because of the awful sensationalised, tabloidy presentation. It was terrible!!
I understand how bad and awful this situation has been in Asia, don't get me wrong it is terrible and if ITV feel the need to cover more of it, then fair enough. But it just annoyed me slightly that the only programme I have looked foward to watch on ITV1 has been pulled without much warning.
But I don't care too much as I've got all of them on VHS and about 4 on DVD.
It was a shame that the particualr Mr Bean episode mentioned wasn't shown. I'm not angry at all the ITV news did a news special at all as quite a few people form the UK were out there on holiday.
However the one thing that annoys me is this. Given the fact that Coronation Street had JUST BEEN ON & this Mr Bean episode had last been seen in about 1998 (although it could have been long before that) surely they could have cancelled an episode of Coronation street.
But I forgot if you EVER touch a soap no matter what situation you get chastised.
So No I don't have a problem with the news special at all, but god forbid we touch one of the twenty episodes of a soap opera that is on in the day.

Where's any logic in that?
When the schedulers look to fit in a news special, a programme like Mr Bean (a cheap repeat that doesn't form the centrepiece of many people's Christmasses) will stick out as removable. Coronation Street, on the other hand, specifically produced for that timeslot and guaranteed to attract many millions of viewers, will not be moved. Soap or no soap. Mr Bean versus many things will lose.

Nobody said that if they cancelled Coronation Street anybody would be mad. But you have to remember that ITV need ratings because of advertising. The BBC didn't have a news special at all, so it was quite considerate of ITV to have one at all. Also, Corrie is a soap with a continuing story and would mess up the schedules if they aired it at another time, Mr Bean has already been seen and was only shown because there was nothing else to show. But I really wouldn't mind if they cancelled Corrie, but putting it against EastEnders would go against the agreement between ITV and the BBC. So There
If Buckingham Palace was being bombed, that's an excuse to not show Mr. bean, but they could just pop up a message saying "Turn to ITV News" or whatever. They did that on Sky One during Queen Mother's Death.

Ahh, The Curse Of Mr Bean at 13 years old, like I will be tomorrow, (wink wink)

Yes but as you know everytime a football match came on ITV1 on a wednesday people used to jump up & down about the fact they would not be seeing Coronation Street on it's usual slot. ITV1 had already shown one Coronation Street episode why not show the other one tonight (I haven't checked the TV schedules for tonight so it may be on tonight)
As for putting it on opposite Eastenders I think Coronation Street would win hands down.
Also there is a current overload of soaps at the moment for example on Mondays:
5:35pm BBC1 Neighbours
6:00pm Five Home & Away
6:30pm Five Family Affairs or Channel 4 Hollyoaks
7:00pm ITV1 Emmerdale
7:30pm ITV1 Coronation Street
8:00pm BBC1 Eastenders
8:30pm ITV1 Coronation Street
