Even more, FIVE's HD license (which has been handed back, hasn't it?) is in May's stuff, also looks like they've got the license for yet another channel?

That'll be for their Sky service - Five HD will be on Sky soon, but not on Freeview HD - they lost their space on that platform, which is probably what you're thinking about.

Five HD is already broadcasting, not sure if its on Sky HD officially yet.

Slightly off topic, but I got my mittens on a Sky+HD box today after we upgraded. And after messing about and getting used to the new guide, remote, etc I noticed that autoview had been removed as an option. Is there a reason for this?

Was handy now we have my Grandma living with us and the idea of her managing to change channels on Sky manually are basically comical. Laughing

I'm also annoyed with the HD box, as you can't change the volume on the box, so everything that goes through the RF port is like a whisper.

National Geographic HD Channel has an excellent range of HD programs and nothing (in my humble opinion) is better in HD than Nature...perhaps sports...but I think nature!

They are going to air a 6-part seies of 'The Best Job in the World' come August, which should be quite amazing!

It launches on the EPG on 171 next Tuesday.

Quote:
Five will be launching its own High Definition channel on Sky+ HD on Tuesday 13th July 2010. The channel will be called Five HD and will be on channel number 171. It will be a simulcast of the current standard definition service and will broadcast HD versions of our most popular acquired American dramas as well as our Australian soaps Neighbours and Home And Away. A wider variety of our commissioned programmes are being produced in High Definition and we expect these to become available on the channel in future.

In order to receive Five HD viewers will require a Sky+ HD box, a Sky viewing card and a television set that is HD compatible. There will be no additional subscription charge for the channel.

Although Freeview is launching a High Definition service in the near future, Five HD will not initially be available on this platform. However, we are exploring options to launch Five HD on Freeview at some future date and are also considering other digital television platforms.

What does this mean? Would someone with a Sky HD box and an expired Sky card be able to view the channel or are five assuming that people with a Sky HD box already have a Sky HD subscription? I wish they would just make it clear by saying it is either Free to view or subscription. Why use 20 words when one will do?

Basically, BBC HD, ITV1 HD, Luxe TV HD and now Five HD are all available to people who have a Sky HD box without needing to subscribe to the 'HD Pack', it's free-to-view without needing a valid viewing card . While Channel 4 HD needs a valid viewing card in order to view the channel, although no subscription to the 'HD Pack' is needed.

Told you it was confusing. What you just said contradicts what five said. If they just said either 'free to air', 'free to view' or 'subscription' it would make it clear.

I'm not sure you are right.

BBC HD, ITV1 HD and Luxe HD do not require a card, and are known as free to air - and can be seen on any satellite receiver.

Five HD is likely to require a Sky card, as does C4 HD, and is known as free to view, and can not be seen on a standard satellite receiver. In terms of the card, any current Sky card will work, it doesn't require a current subscription.

All will be revealed on Tuesday.

I'm getting increasingly frustrated at the lack of HD content on Freesat. The promises were vague admittedly, but a couple of years on, we're still stuck with BBC HD and ITV1 HD (which I suspect is largely upscaled stuff). I never watch Luxe HD because as far as I can tell there's never much of any interest on it and I can't remember how to change my box from Freesat mode to the other mode which allows me to access it...

Is there any news on new channels on Freesat? Will BBC One HD be on there for example?

Isn't the presence or absence of the DOG meant to be the clue on that one?

Would it be for when ITV+1 is within the GMTV timeslot? I guess they'll now need Daybreak+1
