That (post from nwtv2003) actually cleared up a few things for me.

For the longest time I wondered if you could actually receive Channel 01 out there. That was cleared up rather quickly and I now know otherwise.

Just to be clear though...
You program your TV to pick up -hypothetically- Channel 34 or 35 for BBC ONE and it re-tunes it to button number 1 right? Like a preset on the radio? And it varies upon region. Just wanna be clear on this.

The channels used for terrestrial television in the UK are UHF 21-68. Because of transmitter coverage area overlaps, these 47 channels are needed even though only 5 stations are available.
These frequencies are mapped to channels 1-5 either automatically by the television or manually - this procedure happens in the UK just as it does in every other country!

Another question about Austrian television: Could you explain something about regional television from ORF? For example, how many regions does ORF broadcast? Do both ORF 1 and 2 broadcast regional programmes ? Is regional television popular in Austria?

Regional television is not very popular in Austria. There's only a regional news-program 0.5 hours per day on ORF 2. The rest of the day the TV-program of ORF 1 and ORF 2 is the same for the whole country. But we have regional public service radio stations like Radio Salzburg or Radio Vienna...
