So what you are saying is that people no longer have the freedom to voice their opinions.
Is this because you are a sensitive soul who gets frightfully upset whet somebody feels strongly enough about something?
What exactly is your problem with dropping UTV presenters like a digrased England head coach and rebranding as itv1?

UTV certainly don't have the resources of the BBC NI and there's no doubt that effects the standard of the on-screen look and graphics, but I can't honestly believe you think it affects their reporting. The reason UTV Live at 6 is so successful is because it is faster paced, fleeter of foot and frankly just so much better than BBC's Newsline 6.30. Yes, the BBC have lots of live links etc. but it makes no difference to the quality of the reporting. IN fact after a while the live links are boring especially if there is no need to go live somewhere.
Does the whole style of UTV one hour show keep the viewers, especially the weather watchers sections at 5:55. The presenters on UTV also seem to have better on screen relationships and can joke with out them looking outta place.
To be honest I dont think the people in the north do not care about all to much about the look of the show and the many mistakes only makes them look more down to earth.
Fair enough, maybe 'shambles' was a bit strong. I just think BBC Newsline has a better complete package. True, the Mike Nesbitt and Lynda Bryans combination on UTV Live does make it viewer-friendly, but I just feel that without the back up of a good graphics package, more versatile studio and the resource base, BBC Newsline just edges it.
As for the 5.30pm - 6.00pm section of UTV Live, indeed UTV does have a little treasure of a programme there, but its based in a pokey litle corner of the studio. If they put some effort into it, it would look really good.

UTV Live's presentation is a shambles. Titles are cheap and unimaginative, as is the studio. And IMHO the standard of presenting and reporting is questionable.
Yet, I read somewhere recently that UTV Live is thrashing BBC Newsline in the ratings, so they must be doing something right!

You're quite free to express your opinions, but presenting them as "the truth" will get you nowhere.
Others are equally free not to comment on your musings at their will -- being "ignored" as you put it certainly doesn't equal getting "frightfully upset".
Indeed, I'd say there is only one person here who is "frightfully upset" at all this, and it ain't tvmercia that's for sure.
I have to confess though to taking exception to your opinion on your previous post that Tyne Tees (or a lot of other regions) has not suffered, and is a better station as a result of losing its announcers/editorial control/network programming departments. How anyone can think that the sad little ITV outpost in Gateshead we have today can even begin to compare with the ambitious and highly successful niche player with a great public service ethos that was the TTTV of the 1980s and earlier is beyond my comprehension I'm afraid.
Your argument is, in my opinion, ill thought through and I think that, far from being an example of why UTV should sell up and leave NI television, it's a prime and bitter example of how a service deteriorates when run from afar.

Dear all,
I would like to apologise to you all for my "rantings" yesterday.
I would like to personally apologise to Tv Mercia, I am afraid you bore the brunt of it.
Ok so it seems that although UTV is a big part of the itv network, it should update itself, and its trailers should either remainitv1 or be properly dubbed, to avoid the many mishaps that occur.
As for TTTV, I was never a great fan of Bill Steele or Neville Wandness, so therefore think it is better. You must agree though Channel3 NorthEast was a mistake!
Where should UTV be run from? if being runfrom afar is a disaster?

But you said that "the channel" is better for their being axed. Axing the annos at TTTV (and others, including eventually UTV I'm sure) is only a symptom of what happens when a region is gobbled up. The overall effect on the station is far wider. To say that TTTV is a better station now than it was then is incomprehensible. (You surely must be aware that the only reason TTTV got rid of IVC was so that it saved the parent company -- YTV -- money? No other reason -- they were part of a 35-strong redundancy package at the start of 1996).
C3NE was indeed a mistake, and yet another example of how running a station from afar messes it up!
Using TTTV as a shining beacon of how much better UTV will be when it becomes a part of ITV is as laughable a concept as I've heard in many a year.

What I'm saying is, UTV may not be perfect, but it's naive to think that a takeover by ITV will in any way improve the service the people of NI receive.
Yes they may make it more slick, but they'll also strip away so much of the company that you will cease to have any independent TV company *at all* in Northern Ireland. It's not in NI's best interests.

I think that since utv refreshed along with itv last week and im staring to like it better, about two weeks ago i would've hated watching the junctions, etc however i would never like to see utv taken over by itv. However one thing i feel needs to be changed is the news. New studio and new graphics would make it seem so much better. I also feel as said above that if utv live's life style 30 minute show was to have a proper cosier studio instead of being stuck in the corner of the news studio. Oh and they should definately get rid of kirsten who does the film reviews, absolutely awful

Perhaps UTV Live "Features" could move into Studio 1 now that Kelly/SATC have ended, unless Studio 1 will be used for anything in HavHo in the near future?
Also, can anyone tell me if there is a "Studio 3" at Havelock House? I'm sure at the time of the UTV relaunch in 1993 there was talk of a new studio opening as part of the HavHo extension. Is this the studio refered to as a "unilateral" studio on the UTV plc website, or does that refer to the CTA?

AFAK studio 3 was where the IVC was from - at least they had a logo with studio 3 on it.
