Well if that was the case why did BBC move Inside Ulster from 5:30 to replace it with Newline 6:30 ?

Was that not part of a national revamp to conincide with the introduction of the virtual era? Correct me if I'm wrong . . .

I know this is off-topic, but on the subject of Inside Ulster . . . when it was on at 5.35pm, what did BBC1NI do with the spare 5 or 6 minutes after the Neighbours repeat at 6.30pm?

I have no idea thats why i am asking, why change the News to a slot where it will get less viewers?

Just had a look through The TV Room, and Newsline 6.30 didnt start until February 1996! Previous to that Inside Ulster was at 5.35pm.

It was probably just to bring it into line with the rest of the regions.

I do remember the last Inside Ulster was the night of the Canary Wharf bomb.

The schedule back then went:

Children's BBC (opting out after a "goodbye to Northern Ireland" from Philip Schofield)

5:30pm Today's Sport I think this was pre-recorded

5:35pm Inside Ulster

6pm The Six O'clock News (introduced by the Inside Ulster presenter, with the first few seconds of The SIx opening titles in a screen behind the presenter)

6:30pm Neighbours

6:55pm Inside Ulster Update Short in-vision read from the small studio beside Continuity, directed by the announcer.

7pm Network Programme

UTV Live's presentation is a shambles. Titles are cheap and unimaginative, as is the studio. And IMHO the standard of presenting and reporting is questionable.

Yet, I read somewhere recently that UTV Live is thrashing BBC Newsline in the ratings, so they must be doing something right!

UTV certainly don't have the resources of the BBC NI and there's no doubt that effects the standard of the on-screen look and graphics, but I can't honestly believe you think it affects their reporting. The reason UTV Live at 6 is so successful is because it is faster paced, fleeter of foot and frankly just so much better than BBC's Newsline 6.30. Yes, the BBC have lots of live links etc. but it makes no difference to the quality of the reporting. IN fact after a while the live links are boring especially if there is no need to go live somewhere.

This schedule is nearly right. Today's Sport actually began at 5.35pm and Inside Ulster at 5.40pm. The 6.55pm bulletin was also signed for the deaf.

Does the whole style of UTV one hour show keep the viewers, especially the weather watchers sections at 5:55. The presenters on UTV also seem to have better on screen relationships and can joke with out them looking outta place.
To be honest I dont think the people in the north do not care about all to much about the look of the show and the many mistakes only makes them look more down to earth.
