I think this is the best place to mention it, what is www.utvlocal.com. There is a link to it at the bottom of u.tv, and is password protected, anything to do with ITV Local?
Sorry about all the Arial bashing, but seeing it in use on broadcast television, to me, says laziness and lack of originality to me. It's usually the first font you come across on most software run on MS applications so when I see it on screen the first thing that comes to my mind is "That must have taken about a minute then".
UTV seem to have the Swiss/Helvetica font family on their various graphic generators, so I can't understand why they choose to use the cheaper MS version instead of the Swiss family the rest of the ITV network use.
I suppose it's a personal choice of the Promotions department and while I respect it, it doesn't mean I can't criticise it.
I have the advantage here I think, You see I come from the good old North East of Engalnd and have witnessed the end of on screen and local announcers on Tyne Tees. To be honest, with the exeption of Channel3 NorthEast, Tyne Tees hasn't suffered, and is infact a better channel for it.
ITV1 is the way it should go, because UTV keep mucking up programme trailers, and lets be honest they use the original itv1 trailer, and re dub it.
Surely itv1 isn't going to offend anyone. Do itv2,3,&4 channel names offend. NO
UTV seem to be getting a dirty feed of ITV1 tonight. On the first of tonight's Coronation street episodes we had an ITV1 announcer at the end telling us it would continue in half an hour. Then at the end of Tonight we had the ITV1 ECP menu but with our own announcer. Strange...
UTV Live's presentation is a shambles. Titles are cheap and unimaginative, as is the studio. And IMHO the standard of presenting and reporting is questionable.
Yet, I read somewhere recently that UTV Live is thrashing BBC Newsline in the ratings, so they must be doing something right!

Indeed...
Quote:
“UTV Live is also the most watched regional news programme in the ITV Network with 36.1% share, well head of BBC Newsline at 25.8% and the ITV Network regional news at 21.3%. Out of the top 100 programmes in Northern Ireland, UTV Live was the first local programme to feature coming in at 12th place with a massive 264,000 viewers tuning in on 12 September to see the damage caused by the weekend’s rioting following the re-routing of the Whiterock parade.

Most people in NI have a short commute home from work. They watch the first local news bulletin on air - and that's UTV Live.

Well if that was the case why did BBC move Inside Ulster from 5:30 to replace it with Newline 6:30 ?
