I also quite like LWT's 'video wall effect' ident.

When they changed to the generic scheme, it was terrible, the little films before the ident weren't played that often, and if they were it was the same ones. Most of the time it was the lines variation.

And of course we have the new HTV idents to look forward to, apparently coming in the next couple of weeks.
Does this mean Carlton, Carlton (Central), and Carlton (Westcountry) will get new idents too? I hope so - with the names restored! YTV and TTTV have had new idents every couple of years in the 1990's, but Granada's 1993 ident wasn't axed until 1999. I reckon Tyne Tees' local and possibly (new) generic will survive - both less than a year old.

On the subject of regional ITV, I noticed today that Granada Weather has finally ditched the dreadful music before and after. They now have a sponsor thing with a bloke hitting his car or something. Much better though!

GMG say they like changing idents every 3 years.

Yep! Just remember:by 199 2 ,most companies had drooped the generics. So,by 200 2 ,the same thing might happen!

are Scottish & Grampian the only regions never to have been inflicted with the 'Hearts'? I have never even seen them other than the fine pages here. All continuity north of the border is done from Glasgow or Aberdeen depending on the Station. How expensive can continuity suites be? Why dont all regions do their own? Given that they all co ordinate local advertising it cant be much more difficult to do the announcements.

And UTV as well don't (or at least try not to) use the Hearts

Even in the credits to Emmerdale and Corrie?

As you recall, during January, Yorkshire Television dropped the 'live action' hearts idents, This was the last we saw of floor varnishers or fairground rides.

Since then, YTV continued to just use the Daytime/Normal 'lines' hearts Idents when there was a bit of time, and when it was a short junction, just the ident with the hearts spinning away in the background.

Well, in the last couple of weeks, I am aware that Yorkshire Television have dropped even the 'lines' idents now, and whether the junction is 5 or 15 seconds long, The short ident with spinning hearts is used all the time, with the announcer talking throughout it.

One reason for this, might be to simplify the junctions across all 3 channels, as we are getting 'Now on Yorkshire..' mentioned almost all of the time lately, The days of 'Now the news from around our region' are gone!

Also, The long version of YTV's local ident seems to have been dropped also (the one where the chevron appears 5 seconds in, and a version of the famous YTV tune is played). Before all regional programmes, even the main Calendar, the short version is always used (the Chevron is present from the start and a tune just plays along) with the announcer talking throughout with the spinning chevrons in the background.

I hope this is of interest.

Can anyone confirm if the long version of Tyne Tees' new ident has been dropped in favour of the short version?

Following on, It looks like I was a bit previous when saying the 'lines' have been axed.

The YTV lot used it before Friday's edition of Coronation Street.

It is very rare though, probably only making an appearance about 3-4 times a week, Not even before the ITV News or at 9.25am

There wasn't any regional continuity before that Corrie, so maybe they are only capable to do this with short idents at the moment

And before 'Missing' tonight, YTV used a long version of their regional ident, Its the first time I've seen one of these in weeks!.

So it looks like both of the long sets of idents haven't been formerly axed, but are still relatively rare!

That's right, I saw that.
