There was also this in 1979 as well as lots of promos for new seasons etc

Was this also shown on Channel Television since I heard no-one didn't go on strike because Channel was a small business and if people on strike, they would be out of business or something like that?

Channel managed to provide a service based mainly on films, archived programming and local news with the biggest problem coming from difficulties in transporting the film to their studios. Source: Wikipedia]

That's what they did during the strike!

I suspect it was, if only to promote the fact that network shows such as Corrie were back.

Channel's output during the strike consisted of films and bought in US TV movies, they had no
facilities to be able to play 1 or 2 inch VT, so nothing 'video' could be shown, and I think anyway,
anything that had been produced by an ITV company would have been 'blacked' by the ACTT ?

The BBC logo on BBC America animates (one can just see one of the boxes is flipped at one stage)

Seeing how people were talking about the BBC logo was misused on TOTP, BBC East Midlands managed to find a copy using another font...

That's one of the things they were trying (and managed pretty much) to avoid with the new logo in 1997 - there so many variations of it. Often an independent producer would just make a version which looked roughly correct and go with that.

I didn't say that, but thanks for the info - would be interesting to see that.

I'll try to dig it out when I next get a chance. Smile

As promised... Look North – old titles and new BBC logo, in use for only 2 days in October 1997.

That is interesting to see. I didn't even know such a version existed!

Thanks for putting this up Spencer Smile

Also of interest -I think that's the self op desk (note the high section nearest the camera to hide the hands) but not being self opped.

Out of interest - does the BBC police the use of its logo on programmes at all these days? I'm particularly referring to the logo that appears over title sequences and on the end credits.

I've seen a number of recent examples (mostly on opening title sequence) where the BBC logo seems to be a poor recreation. Also, rather annoyingly, the version used in the animating 'BBC Productions' logo on end credits does not have equal spacing between the blocks (there is a very slight difference). Not sure if that's ever been fixed?

There does appear to be more consistency/standardisation of the final 'production graphic' at the end of BBC programmes in recent times - but again, the BBC logo is sometimes not correct. ITV has done a great job in standardising end credits and their 'ITV Studios' graphic. I applaud their ban on scrollers for end credits. Scrollers just don't look good on many TV sets these days.

Why is it that the BBC logo seems to be more prone to being displayed in the incorrect proportions and also to people simply creating their own versions and slapping them on titles/credits? Surely the BBC should insist on programme-makers using only an approved logo file - and then the use of the logo should be subject to scrutiny by the BBC's own internal branding people?

Actually, Channel's output during the strike was more than that. Although it was summertime and the daily CHANNEL REPORT was due to have a holiday, it didn't and they produced an hour-long programme every eveing as well as the regular lunchtime news and late evening News in French. A number of UK-originated film series were shown including 'The New Avengers'. Channel did indeed lack 2" or 1" VTR playout but they did run programmes from high band U-Matic (ironically I slung their last surviving machine out yesterday!) which allowed them to timeshift 'Crossroads' from Westward's earlier playout to their own 6.35 scheduled TX. However during the strike, the VTRs were in constant use as the playout facilities - normally used for commercial breaks and the occasional opt-out - were in use for the entire broadcast day and were pushed to the limits with some material having to be pre-recorded to tape to free up telecine machines.
