So now there's two teams instead of one and one has 3 celebs and one has 2? Why the hell are they messing with a perfectly fine format to create something stupid? Jesus wept, is nothing sacred these days?

I think it's more likely that the article was slapped together by someone who wasn't even alive when The Crystal Maze was on telly.

Saw that as a joke until I realised how many years its been since 1995, and now I feel bloody old.

Stephen Merchant certainly looks the part. Hopefully they haven't dressed him & shaved his head to impersonate Richard O'Brien. The brilliant thing that Ed Tudor-Pole did was to bring his own personality to the role, in a similar way I suppose that actors who play the Doctor in Doctor Who do.

Ah I see.

Do we know yet if this will go out as a full programme or chunked up as part of a telethon?

The indication seems to be a full special. It also looks very likely they're expecting to go to series possibly filmed at Crystal Maze Manchester which was annouced yesterday.

I imagine they'll intentionally build the Manchester experience to make it more suitable to double up for TV production.

Not long at all then.

Would be great if as well as commissioning a series they also got a Christmas special out too for this year.

Particularly as the artist's impression for the Crystal Maze Manchester shows a building that is clearly based on the Studio 2 building at the old Granada Studios, which would presumably be up for lease and redevelopment at the right time.

The studio is currently showing as unavailable to let, though is it big enough considering the original set was in a hanger and I think the size of a couple of football pitches.
