Why did the clock vanish for some scenes in the game room just now?

They bought someone out and he just randomly appeared immediately without anyone telling him or going to get him?

Suggests that the show may involve an element of scripting and acting....

I'm not enjoying the show as much as I thought I would. Too much chat, Richard and that bloody hand ushering people to stand in a semi circle around the other side of the door for seemingly every game, more chat, a slow pace to the show and worst of all, too much chat.

If this gets another series they need to make some changes or I'll not bother tuning in. A wasted chance at a great revival of an iconic game show. It deserves better than this.

The problem is that in this show Richard A feels like the central character with the contestants and the games in secondary roles.

What Richard O'B did well was that he was able to be a great host, without taking the focus away from games and contestants..

You've been my favourite team.

Christ, that really was cringeworthy bearing in mind....

Wasn't unusual first time round either. Previously you had the whole "I think we'll have Fred playing a Mental game" thing and the production had already decided what they were going to play and dropped hints as to who they thought should play it. You'd be surprised how much of the original show was actually choreographed for the sake of the cameras, primarily as it was only done on two or three cameras originally and everything else through pick-up shots.

I think if that was the case they wouldn't make it obvious.

It's more likely he was waiting round the corner as it wasn't safe to leave him locked in Industrial. It could have certainly have been done a lot better though. With perhaps him teleporting in.

This version certainly features less fakery than the original I'd say.

Don't forget they took two days to make the original show whereas now they make two in one day.

It becomes obvious, more so with the benefit of hindsight, the entire concept of a lock-in only exists after you didn't get out in time on the set and for the five seconds before you get "released", more so first time round than this one. It probably translates to an extended stay in the green room (or whatever) and having ample opportunity to drink tea and scoff all the chocolate hobnobs. I'd be very surprised if anybody spent more than five minutes "locked" in anywhere.

I did think the casting was good for this first episode.

It's a lot more fun with everyone knowing each other, or as in this case being related. Loved the bit where the game was revealed to be riddles and the entire family pre-emptively groaned in despair.

Massive flaw in that last game.

Why not just not bother shooting at all and just shoot one, pretend you now and keep trying the six boxes till one opens?

Needs to be made an automatic lock-in if you get it wrong two or three times otherwise it's a pointless game.

Plenty of original games were like that.

Bearing in mind what? The three previous episodes? Or that this may not have been the first non-celebrity episode filmed? Or that it actually wasn't a disingenuous attempt to ingratiate himself with the family?

They bought someone out and he just randomly appeared immediately without anyone telling him or going to get him?

What, do you think they used to leave contestants sitting in the cells until someone came to fetch them? Or that they really sent one of the team back through the maze by themselves?

I wouldn't go looking for any of the behind the scenes videos of the original series or you will be severely disillusioned.

I'm not sure in which order they were recorded, but this seems to have come before the celebrity specials; Richard seemed to interject in odd places, was developing the hand to guide them through the episode, didn't use his 'ALIS' acronym and chatted a little too often compared to the celebrity versions.

The team were a very good, strong team - maybe less so on the mother who won 0 crystals, yet was defiant in leaving her son (and vice captain) locked in.

A couple of Richard's quips amused me; how he added that channel 4 had asked him to define a synonym for the viewers and during the 'stop & reset' game, the mother said "I'm not going to be able to do it", quickly followed by Richard's "That's the spirit!"

The Crystal Maze always mixed episodes up so I'm sure this is the case this year.
