Loads of new games and a new character. Probably the best episode so far too.

Indeed. Just wish they'd cut some of the chat down and give us two extra games.

My guess, based solely on the number of holes for crystals and the bonus crystal given at the end of these celeb episodes, is that there will be at least one extra game in the civilian episodes.

So far so good, it's improving as the episodes go on.

Richard has definitely cemented himself into the role in my view. I wasn't sure I was going to like him but, he's perfect.

I like the Jessica Hynes knight character too. Needs more wackiness from the likes of her to bounce it along further and it replaces O'Brien's off the wall comments too.

It's heading in the right direction for me.

I think it helped with tonight's episode that nobody was particuarly annoying or spotlight stealing (not even Rylan) compared with the past 2 weeks.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but next weeks edition moves to Thursday at 9pm as Channel 4 are covering the Para Athletics Championships from next Friday. In my opinion it features the weakest celebrity team yet with Andrea McLean, Tom Allen, Spencer Matthews, Joe Swash & Stacey Solomon but will continue to watch anyway as the series has got better each episode.

The extra crystal is probably down to the fact they lost a Crystal in each episode buying out Louis Spence, Scarlett Moffatt and Adil Ray respectively and saying it's for Stand up to Cancer they wanted to give them the extra seconds, Stephen Merchant also did the same in the episode last year when Sara Cox was locked in.

I may be wrong, but there are at least 11 holes for crystals.

Doesn't the bonus crystal exist because otherwise it would be possible to have zero time if you didn't earlier win any crystals? And thus, isn't just for the celeb episodes? I don't think they've ever done an episode where they don't do the dome because the team has no crystals.

Richard always says "because it's for Stand up to Cancer..." before awarding the bonus crystal. I think it's entirely possible (though unlikely) for a team to win no crystals in a regular edition.

It's not unusual for the Crystal holder outside the dome to have more holes than crystals that can ever be won. Even back when teams won 10 crystals there was still like another 8 holes or so empty.

And there was no "bonus crystal" first time round either, though it may have been an option if any team was unfortunate enough to get that far without any crystals but that never happened. The only example of a format I can think of where there is a chance the final end game doesn't get played (and this did happen at least once) was Bullseye. Most other formats either had or have an end-game by design or had a fall-through option (such as what happens on The Chase for example) so something gets played.

In the old series, when it was looking like a team would only have a couple of crystals (or less), Richard / Ed would take to effectively walking them through some of the easier games.

Debatable at best I think as I believed the order of the games played was determined in advance much like the "we'll have Fred playing a Mental game" thing. The team in Series 4 that ended up with one crystal had a horrific time in their final zone, Future, including that horrible "spirit level" game.

I suspect the "talking through the games" thing was done on a case by case basis as you can find the outtakes videos on YouTube and on occasion the producer prompts Richard or Ed to guide the player in the right direction if it's obvious after a minute or so they haven't twigged what they're supposed to be doing.

I think there were a couple of occasions where the contestants ended up with just one crystal. On one occasion, at least, the team were prone to getting people locked in and they insisted on buying them out every time.

I think the bonus crystal thing is only for the celebrity specials, on the justification that it's for charity. Role on the normal episodes, I say.

Not really happy in the order they played the zones Medieval, >Aztec > Futuristic > Industrial. Why needlessly mess with established convention? It should be clockwise or anti-clockwise.

Anyone able to confirm if the filming technique has changed. I assume with the advances in technology they don't need to play again now to get the close up shots.
