No doubt the following ones will be full of:

That's a bit unfair. Swash way likeable enough on Whole in the Wall and didn't come across as an arse in the same category as Spence

It amazes me that with all the hype and excitement over the return of Crystal Maze over the last couple of years that these are the best 'celebrities' that they can get. Either they haven't looked very far or anyone decent is either put off by the money or the rest of the line up

It started out as nostalgia for 40 somethings, part of a 90s revival, but as someone of that age group there's no one that appeals to me in the contestant line up at all. Which is a shame considering the cast - Ayoade, Buxton and Hynes is spot on target.

That's what I was thinking, surely celebs of a certain age would be queuing up to take part, as it's fun and doesn't take up much time, you aren't going to get injured, ruin your career by mouthing off and don't have to be covered in spiders.

A lot of celebrity specials are the same though, where producers are either obsessed with or seem forced to always go down the route of Z list reality stars, so called "TV presenters" that are barely that and people that are practically unknown, as if they always have to target a 25 year old female Heat magazine reader for advertising reasons.

Confirmed that Rylan Clark-Neal is the captain next week according to the CA.

Next week's celebrity special of the maze: Joel Dommett, Jermaine Jenas, Adil Ray, Tamara Wall and Rylan-Clark-Neal. I have no idea who any of these people are.

Those names mean nothing to me either. Think one of them may be that overrated guy with the dyed beard from This Morning!

Well, I'm sorry about this, and this is nothing against you two personally, but I find this kind of post a bit pointless. You're not expected to know everyone on television, just like you're not supposed to know everyone in the charts. When I was growing up there were lots of celebrities on television who I didn't know, but I didn't moan about it, I just assumed they were from programmes I didn't watch or know about.

I can't bear it when people on Twitter reply to tweets going "Who's this?", "I don't know who these are", and so on. Everyone on the planet has now got Google on their phone where you can look them up. I don't know why people are so eager to flaunt their ignorance these days. If you don't know who these people are, that's a shame, but you'll forgive me for not being desperately broken-hearted about that. I also think it's a pretty sad state of affairs if you're only interested in seeing people you already know and have no interest in seeing any new people you might like.

I'm sure this forum would love it if the team was Tim Wilcox, Lukwesa Burek, Alastair Stewart, Charlene White and Charlotte Hawkins, but I'm pretty sure that would be meant with blank incomprehension elsewhere. I'm sorry to bang on but I don't like it.

Anyway, the best thing about The Crystal Maze last night was that the word chain game was a mini revival of Tarby's Frame Game. They want to bring that back next.
Stedixon, Brekkie and all new Phil gave kudos

Brian Belo was the master of playing thick for tv, but he was pretty clued up on the industry.

Indeed, very clued up/intelligent.

For the remake to work, the guests booked for the celebrity feature are those who target the most attractive target to advertisers, the younger audience. Alas why C4 continue to commission Hollyoaks and why Ackley Bridge is attempting to fill the Waterloo Road void left by BBC1 .

Attempting? It's succeeded - they already renewed it for series 2.

I suppose the point I was getting at was "is this the type of celebrity I want this show to really be associated with". Many years ago to be classed as a celebrity you had to either have an (unique-ish) act, be funny, or be able to sing (if you could do all the above, so much the better) and you'd had to really work for it to be successful enough to pack out the London Palladium for x nights running or even to get booked. If you made it onto TV you were doing well.

These days you can be a celebrity pretty much at the drop of a hat, any time any where thanks to reality TV. Personally I wouldn't class most "stars" of reality TV a celebrity in any way, shape or form but plenty of people do and that's obviously the way things are these days.

I still think there could be an opportunity for a better class of celebrity for Crystal Maze. But this is the way the producers have decided to go and so be it. I'm all for seeing new people and new talent, some good stuff and new people have come through the likes of BGT but the supposed "talent" shows like that showcase leaves a bit to be desired sometimes.

They also have the challenge of introducing it to a new audience, so the show isn't seen by it's potential audience as just being a remake of an old series being made for nostalgia's sake. The celebrity specials will help massively with this, even if the old-skool fans don't like it because they'll watch anyway.
