Aren't Challenge making a new series of Fort Boyard. Now that's a show that you couldn't really skimp on, I mean I take it it's still going to be filmed on that Fort with all those rooms and games already set-up.

I'd say at a stroke that Fort Boyard is the reason why a new Crystal Maze just wouldn't work these days. Fort Boyard IS the closest thing to a Crystal Maze remake you'll get these days. As somebody suggested above, the Crystal Maze with "real live locations" - well, that's Fort Boyard, isn't it?

Cyinical or not, I totally agree with cwathen in that I sincerely doubt that even a combination of Channel 5's and Challenge's budget would be close to the amount that Channel 4 spent on the show.

The more I think about it the more I think that a re-make would be a bad idea. Let's stick with the original!!

The Crystal Maze was actually based on Fort Boyard, Fort Boyard came first.

That doesn't surprise me. Both shows were based on a format by that self same French bloke, whose name escapes me, weren't they?

BTW Didn't the same guy devise Treasure Hunt aswell? And Countdown? That was a French 'brainchild', wasn't it?

If it comes back, Richard would be better. He didn't take it too seriously, and looked at it as a bit of fun. IMO, while Ed wasn't as bad as people make out, he did take the whole thing too seriously IMO.

Jacques Antoine. Channel 4 wanted to make Fort Boyard all those years ago but it wasn't quite converted in time to make a proper pilot for it so they built their own version instead. Fort Boyard is in it's fourteenth year in France at the mo.

Treasure Hunt and Interceptor - yes. Countdown [La Chiffres et Le Lettre] - no, that was Armond Jammot who is now deceased.

The new hosts of Fort Boyard have been confirmed as Christopher Ellison (Burnside off The Bill), Jodie Penfold and Tom Baker as The Professor.

Seems like a decent cast. I can see Christopher Ellison playing a suitably evil Boyard, Tom Baker as the Professor is inspired, Jodie Penfold is the unknown quanitity for me. But I'm sure she'll suitably fill the Messenger blonde bit of totty role.

Tom Baker? Wonder if the watch tower will change to a police box.

There's Jodie Penfold, She used to do something on Channel 5 (I think it involved wildlife)

Yeah...it may well be Jodie Penfold...but would you rather have an airhead like her bouncing around a castle with a bikini on just like Melinda Messenger Rolling Eyes , or Richard O'Brian/Ed presenting a much better and engaging programme guiding people around 4 themed zones in a distinctive style Very Happy ???

I know each sounds a resisting temptation...but I know who I would prefer!
