I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere else but...

Fans of '90s gameshow ‘The Crystal Maze’ will be delighted to hear it is making a return - but with a twist.

It has been announced that a new “live immersive experience” based on the Channel 4 show is coming to London.

It will give fans the chance to play the games of the maze, and eager, potential participants can register their interest on the all-new official website.

An artist’s impression of what the experience will look like was also posted on Instagram, and the famous crystal ball, where contestants had the chance to grab money blowing in the wind on the original TV show, features.

Sadly, it is currently unclear if any of the event will be televised.

‘The Crystal Maze’ ran on Channel 4 from 1990 to 1995, and was originally hosted by Richard O’Brien, before Ed Tudor-Pole took over for the final two series.

I wish it was coming back to channel 4, modernized I think it would be a real winner again.

The only thing I hope is, is that (even though it is in the picture) they don't have Industrial, I personally would have Ocean

Same here. It could just be that whoever put together the image preferred the look of the wireframe map from the first few series, rather than the solid 3D one they brought in along with the Ocean Zone.

I think it's perfectly clear it won't be televised. About as likely as any ten pin bowling or lazerquest 'experience' found in shopping centre basements nationwide hitting our screens.

It looks as though it's being funded through Crowdfunding on Indiegogo.

There are some more photos on the site too.

Surely having this in Central London is going to bump up the cost of this? I don't understand why you couldn't have Ocean clearly the most impressive zone without water.

All in all very promising although I can't imagine it'll be close in size to the original set.

I know Malcolm Hayworth and indeed Richard O'Brien are involved but they've not talked about the issue of licensing which I though was a bit of a grey area.

The Indiegogo site says Ocean Zone is not featured a) because they're going old-school and b) apparently its down to Health & Safety. Whether you want to believe that is up to you.

Heyworth is creative consultant. Quite what O'Brien is bringing is not clear from what's been released so far, but Indiegogo site appears to be implying the maze master(s) are going to be played by other actors so I think its safe to assume he won't be doing much running around.

He will probably welcome the contestants in a video or something similar.

There were of course many of these around the country at some point in the form of the Cyberdrome Crystal Mazes. The last one to close was at Oakwood, Pembs in 2010 (Interestingly it closed after Hayworth withdrew the licence due to the attraction being so run down).

I imagine Richard O'Brien's role will be to record a video introduction, do some press around the launch and to be there for the opening. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays maze master one more time for the last one.

It does make me wonder if broadcaster might get interested now the maze is actually being built and let's face it we all knew it would happen one day. Depends whether they're going for full size but it wouldn't be too hard for Challenge to pick up the rights for a series I reckon with advances in tech they could shoot the show in real time. I think the show would need tension music and a slightly different format for the done to work now though.
