Legal TV Sky 885 is running Crown Court from the 1970s... eps yesterday had the Granada Colour Production removed, but intact today! Shame they have blown them up to 16:9 though

The episodes I have seen are not blown up to 16:9.

The are flagged as 16:9 so the tv switches - but manually switching the tv to 4:3 gives correct picture (nothing missing).

I've seen a couple of other channel that broadcast 4:3 stuff this way too. Probabally too cheap to buy an ARC.

My, that Granada frontcap was a bit grubby wasn't it??

Looks like they dropped it on the floor before putting it in the slide scanner. The other intro slides were a mess as well.

So when did Granada start using the "Colour Production" version of the frontcap then? The one I just saw just had the Granada logo on it.

Interesting how standards changed over the years. By the early 80s such a scratched up slide would never have been used on-air.

Their DOG is precisely 50% 4:3 safe. Excellent work.

If you are watching on a 4:3 TV with digi bix set to 4:3 picture is collapsed as the whole channel is flagged 16:9, no swithches v poor... grubby Granada end caps just part of the charm and typical Granada

I emailed the people at Legal TV. They're presently advising people with 16:9 tvs to set them to 4:3, and people with 4:3 tvs to set their digibox to 16:9 in order to see Crown Court properly.

Sigh.

I've given them some advice that I really should charge for...
