Think that opening to the Littlejohn programme could land Sky in a spot of bother.
The presenter (don't know her name, but it wasn't Littlejohn) expressing her disgust at the Conservative Party. "Today, I opened my purse, and threw a small blue card with a torch on it in the gutter"

Not entirely impartial.

It's Amanda Platell, William Hague's former spin doctor. She now calls herself "a journalist", but she's bloody awful. Actually, she may well have been a journo prior to working for Hague; not sure.

Either way, she's just dreadful. Why the BBC and Sky continue to let her present television and radio programmes is entirely beyond me; she is useless.

Anne Widdecombe is now having an argument with her.

Littlejohn is actually fairly soft in his leaders. Platell's was pretty aggressive, and I'm sure goes against at least one of the ITC's rules.

There's "due impartiality" and I don't think it covers a former Tory spin doctor sitting there ranting without challenge.

Come back Carole Malone; all is forgiven.

Not only that, but it seems like a bit of a cheesy opener to me. And she calls herself a journalist?

Oh god that Amanda woman is dreadful, she really annoyed me when reading those e-mails out.

Incidentally, the reading out of e-mails really bugs me when they put up the text on screen. Surely they should just read them out or put the text up, one or the other but not both. It seems patronising.

Think yourselves lucky you missed the three hours of her when she regularly stood in for (the actually very good) Edwina Currie on Radio Five Live.

Just... urgh.

Yes, Platell was a journo:

Quote:
Amanda Platell the Australian journalist brought a touch of glamour and controversy to the Tory party as William Hague's chief spin doctor but before that had an equally high profile career in Fleet Street as deputy editor of Today, managing editor of the Independent & Independent on Sunday and editor of the Sunday Express. With a racy novel under her belt, the highly controversial Secret Diaries on Channel 4 & several regular columns, Amanda is now in great demand as a writer and broadcaster. She's also an accomplished after dinner & conference speaker on topics as diverse as corporate responsibility, self regulation of the press and defence strategy.

She is quite opinionated and brash, and I suppose that's why TV and radio employ her, but as a presenter? I don't think so. Her and Julia-Harltey Brewer are part of a new breed of bitching brunettes!

ITV News Channel coverage is now continuing with Alastair Stewart! YAY

Indeed, he's appeared suddenly, did he do London Tonight tonight?. It looks to be quite a night of well known presenters on the News Channel tonight as John Suchet is due on a bit later on.

Lighter presenters Chris Rogers and Steve Scott who were supposed to be on look to have been sent home early

where is this studio, is it a full time studio (they couldn't of built a quick studio since yesterday, could they?)

i though it was just the national studion but with a live shot of westminister instead of the fake newsroom

and agin what the hell was that desk all about!!

They couldn't use the national studio with a Westminister backdrop because of the mirrors at the sides of the set, and you would end up with three house of parliament. I suppose this is why they use a fake backdrop on that set, because the can make it look right with the mirrors, and then can control where people are put. If they used a real image of the newsroom, you might have a person walk in front of the camera, and the mirrors would make it appear as though there are two identical people walking straight at each other, and then when they reached the mirror, both of them would disappear.

Has anyone mentioned that will air a special Tories in Turmoil analysis programme at 9pm this evening, anchored by political editor Adam Boulton?

OK, I think you've been pretty fair in this thread, even going as far as to criticise Sky News, but I have to pull you up on that Edwina Currie comment- she was the worst radio presenter that Radio Five Live have ever employed (and that includes Danny Baker). She screamed (annoying late at night), didn't listen to more than one side of the argument and sounded incredibly smug 99.9% of the time. I for one have started regularly relistening to the slot now she's left and the excellent, vibrant, entertaining and down-to-earth Anita Anand has taken over (not sure if that's permanent)...she's the new Fi Glover.
