BBC Marr's ITV's news figures
You'd have thought BBC News 24 had enough opportunities for cross-promotion without its ITV 24-hour news channel rival giving it a helping hand. As the media pack waited for Iain Duncan Smith's statement this afternoon, ITV News lingered on an empty doorway, with the instantly recognisable figure of the BBC's Andrew Marr doing a live piece to camera just in shot. Cue literally several ITV News viewers, who couldn't be bothered to wait for ITV's Nick Robinson, switching over to News 24. It might even have been a dozen.

It is quite funny the way ITV NC shoot themselves in the foot so much of the time. They are news-lite, but I think they could exploit this more by rebranding as something like "ITV Entertaining News- where even the "bad" news is funny" Rolling Eyes

Well I doubt he will win the confidence vote, he is an appalling leader. Tony Blair is bad but he is ten times badder.

That may be the case, but what of the alternative ?

Michael Howard ? David Davis ? Michael Ancram ?

There is no obvious successor, they are all as bland and dull as IDS. They may as well have stuck with him, let him lose the election, and then change him. Because without a doubt they will be going through this process again after the next election anyway, even if they change the leader now. The best choice would be Portillo or Clarke, but apparently they are ruling themselves out. How about ITV News Nick Robinson, he used to be chairman of the Young Conservatives. Laughing

With civil war going on with the Tories, Blair may as well call an election now, even though the government is unpopular, there would still be a landslide victory.

Awwwww what a cop out, apparently they are not going to reveal the figures of the vote, just whether he has been succesful in gaining a majority or not.

The figures will probably be leaked, along with who voted for who.

Oh I don't know, on the BBC News special this afternoon you could quite clearly see Nick Robinson in the background behind Andrew Marr after Iain Duncan-Smith had spoken. (as has been said before in the thread). You could also hear Adam Boulton as well in the same broadcast. Which surprises me as Media Monkey suggests he was on the other side of Mr Robinson... Confused:

Also, Nick Robinson wandered across the back of the shot behind Mr Marr as he was wrapping the special up, and then literally right at the end was a lingering shot of Conservative Headquarters - guess who walked across the shot then? Adam Boulton! Very Happy

Now there's cross-promotion for you. Smile

Don't most pass around mics or have on a stand which they walk up to á la Montel? Wink

Montel's setup is necessary as Montel Williams has Multiple Sclerosis. He tires more easily than other talk show hosts, and the condition affects mobility as a result so he doesn't walk around as much as the others.

Incidentally, while we reach this point in the conversation - which Political Editor does everyone prefer? I'm definitely an Andrew Marr fan, I think he's brilliant at what he does. Nick Robinson is just a cheap pretender.

Rather funny and according to an article on Media Guardian, Iain Duncan Smith insisted on waiting until the end of Doctors before he made his speech, as they said his speech was going to be at 2.20pm, but it went out just after 2.35pm when BBC One joined BBC News 24.

Adam Boulton. Seems a knowledgeable chap and knows what he's talking about and still sounds excited and interested in whatever's going on even if nobody else gives a stuff about it. Also puts in loads of "I think" as well, makes it more interesting than it would be otherwise. I often wonder if this guy ever knows what the Sky News studio looks like (the main one, not Westminister) as I've never seen him in it. Smile

That's funny because the article I read on Media Guardian suggested that the BBC asked Mr Duncan-Smith to withhold his statement so they could do a simulcast on 24 and One straight after Doctors.

I quote from this page:

Quote:
The beleaguered Tory leader was due to speak to the gathering crowd of reporters in Wesminster at 2.15pm, when BBC1 was in the middle of an episode of the daytime medical series [Doctors].

But when his aides emerged to say that he would be a few minutes late, corporation staff suggested he wait until 2.35pm when Doctors was due to end.

BBC bosses were reluctant to break into the programme because such interruptions infuriate regular viewers.

Mr Duncan Smith duly obliged, striding out of Tory HQ just after BBC1 switched to a simultaneous broadcast with BBC News 24.
