I was in parliament on wednesday and, being interested in this kind of thing, It was interesting to see all the lobby journalists and cameramen all over the place, chatting on their mobiles.
We took a detour and walked through Abingdon Green, where all the rolling news channels were reporting. Saw Edwina Currie twice- doing various interviews with virtually everyone. I think they were takling to as many Tories as possible.
Its interesting hearing what happend on the news channels. Can I ask why nobody got a video of Spicer when he announced the result? I
Howard will be useless I imagine. He will surely remind everyone of the old Major government, and I've seen that Paxman interview about 10 times in the last day or two already. He cirtainly has a big past. However, he is good at debating, and will score points at PMQ's.
where is this studio, is it a full time studio (they couldn't of built a quick studio since yesterday, could they?)
i though it was just the national studion but with a live shot of westminister instead of the fake newsroom
and agin what the hell was that desk all about!!
They couldn't use the national studio with a Westminister backdrop because of the mirrors at the sides of the set, and you would end up with three house of parliament. I suppose this is why they use a fake backdrop on that set, because the can make it look right with the mirrors, and then can control where people are put. If they used a real image of the newsroom, you might have a person walk in front of the camera, and the mirrors would make it appear as though there are two identical people walking straight at each other, and then when they reached the mirror, both of them would disappear.
I believe the BBC coverage came from a rentable studio facility with a Westminster backdrop. I think anyone can hire it - and its great view - and it comes with some TV facilities.
So it looks like the Vampire will be the Leader ....
This is great news - it means the Tories will never get back in -
Let them choose the man who famously sacked Derek Lewis ( ex Granada CE pre - Gerrry Robinson) from running the prison service for some spurious reason
Let them choose the man who was the architect of the Poll Tax - a tax on just breathing ......anyone remember the riots that caused? ( or grab a telly or 2 in the process???)
They are desperate for a Thatcherite again -but the question is ...are we?
( I think not)
....as Ann Widdicombe said ...'there is something of the night about him '

Garlic and crucifixes anyone ?
No need for that, just get everyone who meets him to say the phrase: 'did you threaten to overule....?'
You've hit the nail completely on the head, the problem with Howard is that there are a load of us that remember him in the Thatcher/Major years. We also remember the Poll tax and there is no way we would vote Howard.
I quite believe the theory that he is a caretaker leader, keeping the party ticking over until the next general election and then will give way to someone younger, dynamic and more electable for the election after that

Why not just get someone younger, dynamic and more electable now?

IMO they should let William Hague come back, he was a good leader and it looked like he could modernise the Conservatives. It's just a shame that no could have given a toss about the 2001 Election. But after the past year Labour has had more people will vote in 2005, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Lib Dems coming in for a change.
Though Michael Howard is a good choice for now I wouldn't like to see him being PM, though he is good when having a go at Tony Blair, something which IDS couldn't do. As said when people see MH we associate him with the awful years of Thatcher/ Major, with things like the Poll tax riots. Plus the other good thing about MH is that he has good experience.

Because Phil, if they did that, they would still be beaten at the next election and the leader would be tainted and the Tories would be going through the whole find a new leader process again.
Howard is a stop-gap and a damage limitation exercise. Why do you think David Davis stood down now ? He knows they won't win the next election, and will no doubt be the next Tory leader once Howard is dumped. He'll stand a better chance at winning the election after that, Davis is looking after his own politicial ambititions really.
Pure conspiricy and unfounded rumour - rather typical of what you would expect from a forum thread populated by Labour-supporting employees of the broadcast news fraternity.
