I couldnt find somewhere relevent to post my views on how the Hutton Inquiry is being covered by the various UK or International News agencies...

I am watching the reconstruction by SKYnews of the Hutton Inquiry. I must say they have surprised me...

SKYnews are covering this very tastefully and the reconstruction is a good way to present the information to the viewers, as opposed to text quotes with a backing photo.

I havent been watching the News lately, so I cannot comment on anything other than what I am watching now. I hope that SKYnews continue with these reconstructions as the inquiry progresses.

It will be interesting to see how the BBC cover this, it must be an unusual occurance, being the biggest news story of the day, as opposed to just reporting the news!

I posted this in the Sky News Ticker thread:

Size doesn't always count at the BBC
The Hutton inquiry has been mobbed by BBC journalists over the last couple of days - not just giving evidence but also reporting on events for the corporation's many TV and radio bulletins. But numbers aren't everything and the Beeb still missed key points as correspondents dashed out of the courtroom to do live to cameras or radio interviews. Canny Sky News on the other hand stayed right up to date thanks to the magic of the laptop. No wonder it's billing the service on air as "the fastest". A Sky reporter tapping away at the speed of light with a live link to the newsroom ensured that the 24-hour news channel didn't miss a trick - much to the chagrin of the BBC hordes who lacked similar foresight. Expect everything to change tomorrow, but who'll be tuning into BBC News 24?

Would there be some regulations for the BBC, on how much they can cover the BBC in news stories? Or is there regulations on any News agency in how much coverage they can give on themselves?

From what I've seen of the BBC coverage I think its been pretty fair. It must be vey strange and difficult to report a story which you are at the centre off.

I keep meaning to watch the TOTH on Sky to see what they say about it and see how it compares to the BBC to see if it really is being fair. But what I seen on N24, the Six and on Five Live they have been fair and not at all pro-BBC, even though it al seems to be going in the right dircetion for them.

I don't know, but I doubt it would change the way *this* story was reported, even if there were. Surely it would be more to do with self-promotion, say the BBC running stories about a Panorma investigation, rather than this kind of thing. I hardly think the BBC are jumpig for joy about the fact that they are in this situation.

Interesting that Sky News have filmed the reconstruction in Widescreen and are showing it in Letterbox format.

As per usual I expect this thread will be just about BBC News 24 v Sky News?

The ITV News Channel were also covering the inquiry, with Chris Rogers saying that the only channel to watch for the most detailed news about the trial was the ITV News Channel

I'm normally a fan of the ITV NC, but I thought their coverage was a bit half-hearted.

Sky I think did best with their rotating reporters in the courtroom and broadcasting outside, plus the laptop thing above.

ITV NC's lead story on the Hutton Inquiry seems to be more about the criticism of Andrew Gilligan from within the BBC.

Sky in the meantime are leading with the fact that Susan Watts story backed up what Gilligan had to say.

Newsnight's report tonight was rather good; detailed, with some good guests, and very nice graphics.
