Digit Al isn't really appealing to older people is he? He's some hi-tech robot, and without wanting to sterotype anyone, he's a bit 'modern'. Digital UK should be targeting old guys, and Digit Al doesn't strike me as 'effective'.

I think Digit Al's a good way of demystifying scary technology for a lot of people. His job is to make sure people know that switchover's happening and to act as a helping hand to those that mean it most. If on the most basic level all he does is act as a 'signpost' for switchover communications then surely that's a good thing?

I don't think he is "demystifying scary technology". I think that's what he's supposed to do, but I'm not seeing that in the narrative of the commercials I have seen.

Perhaps if he leads his "mother" by the hand to a shop selling set-top boxes, or connects himself to a television with no picture bringing it to life?

Do you see what I mean?

The focus has to be on the television rather than any other family activity.

If, in mitigation, he is only acting as a signpost then a less complicated signpost would achieve more.
